“If we don't fight for WAl first we will continue to put ourselves back in the same danger we are recovering from now.” - Uilani Tevaga, Maui Resident

When cops weren’t letting people through with things to take to Lahaina, instead locals went and took stuff by boat. When the national guard was blocking the harbors in Lahaina, there was a family that owned a private boat ramp and let everyone come through with supplies💙😭
URGENT‼️‼️‼️‼️ Maui is in DESPERATE need of baby food and formula!! If you are able to contribute, please let me know and I can send you an address to a woman in Haiku doing distribution to parents on Maui!!!!! Please retweet!!!
I tried, but simply couldn’t contain the emotions. At least 67 are now dead. 67.
I tried to uphold journalistic stoicism, but I’m only human.
To my fellow journalists who have ever covered trauma — allow yourself to feel. Love yourself. 🙏🏼🩵

Maui Locals are speaking up. I can confirm what he is saying is true. Friends of mine tried to bring truck loads of ice and food to Lahaina for the people that are stranded and they were turned away, but yet were allowing tourist to go through! 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏻♀️ #Maui
Maui Aloha: The Peopleʻs Response!
“Support our frontline grassroots heroes mobilizing to mālama ʻohana affected by the wildfires on Maui!” 🙏🏼🌺

You can’t claim to care about ʻāina, but refuse to fight against the polluters that overheated our planet, warmed the air, and dried out our vegetation—to the point where fires are killing our people.
If you’re using the #mauifires as a way to spread misinformation and conspiracy theories for clout or whatever other bs, you’re scum and I wish you the worst 🫶🏼
I always wanted to make mainstream media connect climate disasters to colonial greed.
But it’s fucked up that dozens of my friends, family, and neighbors had to perish for that to happen.

To help us take our #Landback and retake Democratic control of our resources, lest many more will needlessly suffer.
To reporters covering the #MauiFire: Please stop characterizing Front Street and Lahaina Town as a “tourist spot”
It was the original Capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
King Kamehameha’s palace is here.
Kānaka Maoli still live here, on their ancestral land from the 1800s.
TOURISTS CASUING UNNECESSARY STRESS. Businesses need to make money but do the employees (locals) who lost it all need to be at work.?Tourism is not needed at this time. Please listen to her

Devastating
People of #lahaina wanted to share their first hand experience in the Lahaina fires. They wanted the world to see the reality of the situation.

Many #Maui Locals are now really concern. Theres rumors going around that billionaires are taking advantage of the situation and try to buy out homeowners that were affected at the fire in Lahaina 😞
Nobody wants to hear about how u vacationed to Maui and how ur family is so thankful to experience Lāhainā before the fires.
Local families and biz have lost everything. Families can’t even find each other. Use your rich vacation money and donate.
