There is not a one image for someone who commits sexual assault, so changing the perspective could be helpful

This is another way peers can play a detrimental role, because if the assault occurred within the group, it may be even harder for the victim to come forward.

However it could be detrimental when there is a power dynamic within the group leading to unwanted sex due to influence of others in the group

@JacketKate @AmitaNVyas A3: I think that #SexualCitizens does a great job depicting a myriad of sexual assault experiences. Many of these stories are ubiquitous across campuses, so I think that reading this could help guide orientation programs to understand that sexual assault isn't one fits one.

If this was in place throughout the US, I believe that it would increase confidence and self-esteem around an individual's sexual purpose, as well as consent.

@AmitaNVyas A1: One large component to driving sexual assault, as discussed in #SexualCitizens is the concept of geography/space. When you don't have your own space, may that be due to financial barriers, etc., it poses potential threats to your own sexual citizenship.

A12 the idea of girls being "pure" is a social construct that needs to be eliminated. It is important to stress to kids the importance of safe & healthy sex & relationships. It is important to inform them about healthy love&treatment for BOTH sexes and not leave it to the girls

While many will already have those unwanted pregnancies and possibly STIs, it could be a great opportunity for them to at least learn about STI and pregnancy prevention #GWReproHealth

@AmitaNVyas @TheRachelLoyd @GWpublichealth I think (hope) that those who care are trying to change the media perception of victims of sexual assault, but we have to strive to include victims of sex trafficking. I think that social media is the place to start because we have to involve people who don’t realize the issue.

I would like to see a comparison in those in the cycle that don't receive any support. I wonder what it would be like if there were more programs like this. #GWReproHealth

A3G: Othering is this idea that different life events won't happen to us, so we put people in a "box" that they are a certain type of way bc they've undergone something. We see people as "other" and don't see the situations they go through as something that could happen to us

There is a great amount of 'othering' when it comes to victims of sex trafficking, which is where the effort needs to begin (trying to reduce othering) #GWReproHealth

It is vital to remove stigma in certain situations for sex workers, but it is very challenging when there are also vulnerable populations that are victims within this movement. We must understand & try to teach the difference.
