@reach_vb@Merstradamous@OpenAL That's API cost on one benchmark. We're talking about subs here, not API. If Sol is 10x cheaper per task, how come my 2 ChatGPT x20 burn in days, and one Claude 200$ sub with Opus 5.5 still gets more work done for me? On paper 10x, in real life it's the other way around
Maybe Codex is that efficient on paper, but in real work I get way more done, and faster, per % of the sub on Opus 5.5 than on Sol 6.1 or Astra Medium.
I'm less scared to start a task on Opus with 4% left than on ChatGPT with 35% left ๐
For me one 200$ Claude sub with Opus 5.5 feels like 3 ChatGPT 200$ subs. I have 2 and they burn in days. And Opus just does the work better, so way less redoing.
And that's before the 200$ plan gets cut in half. So yeah, I believe it
@haider1 No idea what they'll drop, but after DevDay I already canceled one sub and the second one is next, using Claude way more now. Curious how they top that success next week ๐
@thsottiaux Fortunately I'll think about a Codex sub again in the future too ๐ Future models won't do today's tasks, and with all these moves on limits and plans even less so. Not sure why you guys came up with this. Hope at least your economics got better from it, otherwise it's a fail
@IamEmily2050 Same here. Both my x20 burned in a few days even before the halving. 4 threads for 20+ hours with 85% left sounds like a different product. Or a different account ๐
Yeah no reset on the 500$ plan won't surprise anyone, it's nerfed anyway ๐ Low limits, ultrafast burns everything in like an hour. Then you sit on the same slow weaker models as on 200$ but pay +300$ for it.
Half the features aren't available in EU, and part of it I could already do before, and way more. Not just one dot doing everything by itself on its own computer, without context from my computer history, threads and other sources. For now it's a downgrade.
Already canceled one x20, will burn the tokens left and cut the second one too. Everyone around me already moved to Opus 5.5, me too, doing tons of work faster and better. I'll survive somehow ๐ซ
Small lifehack for anyone who saw the OpenAI DevDay Chromatic and wants to vibecode Game Boy games: you don't need to pay $3-4k on eBay for it.
The ChatGPT Codex plugin (ModRetro Chromatic, Plugins tab in the Codex app) builds GB/GBC games on its own. It's GB Studio under the hood, and GB Studio exports straight to Analogue Pocket.
How it works:
1. Describe the game to Codex, test it in the emulator
2. Export as .pocket
3. Drop it into a "GB Studio" folder on the microSD
4. On the Pocket: Tools โ GB Studio โ Play Creations
Why I'd take the Pocket:
+ 3.5" 1600ร1440 screen vs 2.56" 160ร144
+ GB, GBC and GBA carts out of the box + adapters for Game Gear, Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket
+ All your Codex games on one microSD, pick from a menu. The Chromatic blank cart holds one game, every new one means reflashing
+ Built in battery, USB-C, TV dock
+ openFPGA cores for NES, SNES, Genesis and more
To be fair, the DevDay Chromatic looks great and it's a cool piece of history. If you want it for the collection, go for it.
But for actually making and playing games with Codex, the Pocket is the better deal. Same games, bigger screen, way more console.
And flashing that blank cart needs a dev mode code that only came with the DevDay units anyway ๐
@NimaZeighami I like your positive mood! Even if there's a way to load Codex games on your Anduril one, that only proves my point: nobody needs a DevDay unit for all the money in the world ๐
I get it, your Anduril one is shipping, congrats ๐
But my post is about vibecoding games with Codex, not video out. Nobody is posting their DevDay Chromatic on a TV. Every video is the same: build a game with Codex, play it on the handheld.
Funny part, your Anduril one can't flash Codex games to a cart either. The dev mode code only came with the DevDay units.
So it was never Chromatic vs Pocket as consoles. It's whether you need to pay $3-4k on eBay for that experience. You don't. Chromatic isn't the only way to vibecode Game Boy games, and the Pocket does it cheaper, on a better screen, with way more games.
Dock is extra, fine. Even at $150 it's not $3-4k.
@sama Of course it's your favorite. It's the reason we don't get resets anymore ๐
In the EU we don't even have dots, so we only got the gravity well of dread part: halved plans, weekly limits and +$300 for "Maximum power". Stonks ๐
