Skip the movie tonight and spend an hour with Warren Buffett sharing his approach to investing.
It’s one of his most well-known talks, and far more useful than another film.
One of my principles is that if you’re worried, you don’t need to worry — and if you’re not worried, you need to worry.
That’s because worrying about what can go wrong will protect you and not worrying about what can go wrong will leave you exposed.
I’ve found this to be true in business, and in life.
Three meals a day is a Rockefeller psyop.
"Our ancestors ate once a day, sometimes three times a week."
"And you know what? They thrived. They were lean, sharp, and strong, because the body is designed to function best in fasting."
"But you've been programmed. You think skipping breakfast is a crime. You think hunger is an emergency. No, it's power."
"Fasting activates cells that act like little soldiers. They march straight to the damage, clean it out, rebuild you stronger."
"That's real medicine."
In 1971, the US ran out of money and defaulted on its debts. Now, they didn’t say it that way. But by moving away from the gold standard, money as we understood it ended.
I expected the stock market to plunge, but it went on to rise nearly 25%. That surprised me. But when I looked into it, I discovered the exact same thing happened in 1933 and it had the exact same effect.
Here’s why.
Don't just react to pain — reflect on it. To overcome any obstacle, you must think deeply about how reality works and develop principles to guide your actions. That's the only way to learn from your mistakes so you don’t repeat them. The pain is the signal! @StevenBartlett
Sometimes you need to stand by and let someone make a mistake (provided it's not too serious) so they can learn. It's a bad sign if you are constantly telling people what they should do; micromanagement typically reflects inability on the part of the person being managed. It's also not a good thing for you as a manager. Instead of micromanaging, you should be training and testing. Give people your thoughts on how they might approach their decisions, but don't dictate to them. The most useful thing you can do is to get in sync with them, exploring how they are doing things and why. #principleoftheday
History shows us that having too much debt during an economic downturn leads to a classic, self-reinforcing cycle where:
1) The empire can no longer borrow the money to repay its debts
2) It prints a lot of new money, which devalues the currency and raises inflation
3) Living standards decline, leading to the rise of political extremism
4) Turbulent economic conditions undermine productivity and there is conflict about how to divide the shrinking resources
5) Populist leaders emerge pledging to take control and bring about order
