@punished_bobda Sure but this type of argument is always used presumptively in favor of the later prophets over the earlier prophets. Spencer W Kimball was just as susceptible to being wrong about Godโs ultimate identity as Brigham Young was.
The always meant to be temporary bit is an understandable cope for losing something that was vital to the restoration but itโs simply not what the church leaders who practiced thought or intended. The secession of polygamy was meant to be temporary.
@Seeking72 haha yeah. The answer is just jacob 2 also says God sometimes commands it to "raise a people" in order to creat a distinct culture and genetic set and have more kids
Always meant to be temporary but we do have to follow God's laws for the time they're given in
Jacob 2 & polygamy
The common understanding of Jacob 2 is that monogamy is the norm and that polygamy can be commanded on special occasions to fulfill a particular purpose.
However this interpretation falls prey to common misunderstandings.
@jonathanplumb@ThoughtfulSaint Glad someone else knows about early leaders views on Mohammed and Islam. Itโs too uncomfortable for mormies to acknowledge.
@ArkofOurSafety@vespa_the_goat@The2nd1776 The Bible doesnโt fit this metric by the way and neither does the temple and temple changes. Itโs nice and all to take an absolutist stance on what you can consider doctrine but no one functions as if this is the actually determiner of doctrine.
@TheGermanicist@The2nd1776 This theory completely falls apart if you read the minutes regarding the disciplining of Orson Pratt. Brigham Young did believe that Adam from the garden is is our Heavenly Father.
@PopePiusIXStan@RykerJackson97 General membership was generally pretty low but I recall certain settlements had something like 80%. Leaders were expected to be polygamists and there were discussions about it being improper for a monogamist to hold certain calicos above polygamists.
@punished_bobda@MarinasHammer@RepThomasMassie Massie did vote against the budget increase because of what was packaged in it. Massie supports mass deportations but unlike the rest of the Republican Party heโs not willing to swallow a thousand poison pills to get middling victories.
