Today I met with European Commission President @vonderleyen to share the progress we’ve made on our Scaling Up Renewables in Africa campaign. ⭕️

600 million people across Africa can’t access electricity, even though the continent is rich in energy resources like solar, wind, water and geothermal. 

Without electricity, children can’t do schoolwork; people can’t receive healthcare; parents can’t easily prepare nourishing meals. 

To tackle this paradox, @GlblCtzn partnered with European Commission President Ursula von dey Leyen and South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa, to drive investments into renewable energy from the private sector, G20 and African governments. 

Over the next 6 months, we will leverage Global Citizen’s platforms - Global Citizen NOW in Sevilla, the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, and Global Citizen NOW in Johannesburg during the G20 meeting - to highlight new commitments toward this campaign. We are calling on the private sector and governments to step up their investments and help bring critical renewable energy to the continent.
