@ScottGreen27202@3four3 You are missing the point, all those players (Pulisic, Mckennie, Robinson, etc) they have their spots secured because there is no other competition, because the MLS is unable to produce any pool of players that can put their spots at risk.
If you don't watch soccer or haven't been paying attention during this World Cup...do is all a favor:
Stop asking pointless questions, suggesting rule changes, telling us what is stupid, or how much better the US team would be if we didn't have football or basketball. 😉
Just watch the games...or don't.

Salve, oh Patria, ¡mil veces! oh Patria.
¡Gloria a ti! ¡Gloria a ti!

Coaching has this funny little problem:
everyone has a coach…
except the coach.
Athletes get pep talks.
Parents get explanations.
Admins get updates.
And we get—
the steering wheel on the drive home.
We’re the ones who stay level
even when we don’t feel level.
We’re the ones who reset the room
even when we’re the ones who need the reset.
It’s not a complaint.
Just one of those parts of the job no one really talks about.
You pour into everyone.
But the job doesn’t pour back.
If you’ve felt that lately… yeah, same.
Help them play better football so they can become better players.
Not: become a better player to play better football (that’s the exception to the rule.)
The balance between player and team development.
I used to divide training into two main buckets:
- Player Development.
- Team Development.
It seemed logical.
On the one hand, you need to develop the players.
The technique, decision-making, coordination, and so on.
On the other hand, you need to coordinate the players. Otherwise, there’s chaos.
1/
But this pulls your coaching focus in two directions.
And you split your training time.
Out of 90 minutes, 30 or more went into the team development.
I wasn’t happy with that.
I knew that in youth football player development should be the main priority.
So, I always felt bad for "wasting time" on team development.
I was constantly looking for the right balance.
2/
And I've found it.
But not how I expected.
Today, I believe the right balance is 100% player development — but always within the team context.
Because at the core, there is no such thing as a team.
There are only players.
So, I boiled team behavior and group tactics down to individual actions.
Team behavior is what emerges from those individual actions.
3/
That changed everything.
Now I can invest 90 out of 90 minutes into player development.
I don't have to split my attention or my training time.
So, the players can develop much faster.
And the team gets stronger much faster - as a byproduct.
4/
With the old method, improving one didn’t mean improving the other. (see image left side).
But I don’t separate anymore. Both evolve together.
Both things affect each other immediately.
We focus on thing - and it bleeds into the other. (see image right side).
Better communication improves technique.
Better technique creates new ways to communicate.
They reinforce each other.
