@SethTerkper Great acknowledgement. Let us then work to eliminate presumptive income and presumptive taxes from our tax laws. WHT on businesses taking a toll and eroding business capital especially for SMEs. A fairer tax regime ensures better compliance. The stats say it all
@SethTerkper@SethTerkper respectfully, I disagree we acted unilaterally and face pressure. We don't pay more import duties on vehicles than Togo, Nigeria and even Ivory Coast. We one one of the highest import duties in the subregion
@SethTerkper All this is well and good but we need to be concerned about productivity if 60% of all government revenue pay wages and salaries of just 650,000 government employees. That is the core issue for national discussions
@SethTerkper With just 50% compliance, Govt coffers will be full. Real question is where will the funds come from? Are we going to discourage land ownership or prevent families from sending kids to school or travelling to work in own cars in spite of all the indirect taxes on those assets
@SethTerkper Our tax laws heavily punishes low income families and discourages entrepreneurship and risk taking. It was not designed to encourage frugal spending in business which is counter productive. Let us promote reforms that encourages progress, innovation, risk taking and dignity.
@SethTerkper For tax reform purposes, we must provide for dignified personal allowances. These archaic idea that there is so much money out there punishes everyone for the sins of the few. Are we not already heavily taxing cars and immovable assets given the heavy burden of indirect taxes
