The Kenya Dental Association (KDA) has issued an official statement raising grave concerns over the proliferation of unregulated healthcare training programmes.
See statement attached.
Parallel and unregulated imitation courses for sale to unsuspecting persons derail standards of public healthcare and results to mockery and grave harm to our people. Calling MKU to start a dentist training school in line with established professional and regulatory standards.
Routine dental check ups ( atleast once a year ) could you save you a lot of money and pain here is why β¦. (Read to the end to save at least 150k for dental care π)
Our teeth have 3 layers enamel , dentine and pulp . Enamel is the outermost layer and does not contain any nerves when you have a cavity here you might not know as you donβt feel any pain or symptoms but your dentist might be able to pick them out on your annual check up like in frame 3 of 1 or on dental X-rays . At this point your dentist will advice on diet and oral hygiene practices and do a filling or a fissure sealant this cost average 6k for quality tooth colored fillings π΅ like the ones done below by your truly π
The second layer of the tooth is called dentine and contains nerve endings . If you delay for your visits the decay may reach the second layer . This may be painless at the beginning but as it moved closer to the 3 rd layer you might experience mild to severe sensitivity depending on how close it is to the pulp which is the 3 rd layer . in the earlier stages a filling may still be possible or temporary filling may be done to allow the tooth to heal followed by a permanent filling . At this point your cost of treatment may remain at 3-4 k for a temporary followed by the permanent after 6 to 8 weeks . So total cost of treatment at this stage about 5 to 10k π΅π΅
The 3 rd layer of the tooth is called the pulp this is where all your never and blood vessels are housed . Any decay or irritant close to the pulp causes a lot of sensitivity and throbbing pain ( which could have totally avoided with a routine dental visit ) at this point the tooth may not respond to pain meds the treatment recommended is Root-canal treatment which just means disinfecting the inside of the tooth and completely sealing it from the Roots upwards . This will cost you about 15k done in one or more sessions . π΅π΅π΅
After Rootcanal treatment the tooth tends to be very brittle as most teeth are usually very damaged so itβs advisable you follow up with a crown to protect the tooth in the long term . A good quality crown will cost you between 20 to 35 kπ΅π΅π΅π΅
Extraction is the very last resort for grossly damaged teeth . While extraction on its own may not be expensive the permanent replacement may cost you kashamba somewhere . On average a dental implant will cost you about 150k π΅π΅π΅π΅π΅π΅π΅π΅
So in a nutshell visiting your dentist regularly will help keep you on top of your game and take care of small things before they get out of hand .
I hope this saves you some money and importantly pain . Remember sharing is caring π
As alway yours toothfully

Not surprised, all the top organic brains without mbolea or kusukumwa find themselves in UoN. I mean most of the top 100 people in KCSE end up there in medicine, law school, engineering, architecture etc. Na most of them stay in hostels only to come out of school and lack job opportunities,so doleful!
CBA ni nini? Ni makubaliano ya kisheria yanayolinda haki za wafanyakazi. Interns walikubaliwa mshahara wa 206K, kupunguzwa hadi 70K ni KUVUNJA SHERIA!

Oral cancers arenβt talked about much but we see them a lot at the clinic. History of prolonged mogoka use is one of the most common predisposing factors, among other things, in the OSCC patients we attend to( oral squamous cell carcinoma).
