The real tragedy of India is how, after 1947, a complex Indo-Islamic, Persianate and multicultural civilisation was reduced to a narrow Hindu-majoritarian national narrative, erasing the thousand-year heritage that built its greatest cities, monuments, arts, institutions and administrative traditions, even though this narrative doesn’t match the subcontinent’s real history and ignores the civilisation that genuinely defined the subcontinent.

They have declared two of the world's largest rivers (the Ganga and the Yamuna) as sacred, yet they pollute them relentlessly. The Ganga is among the most polluted rivers in the world.

Just a few days ago, a group of Indian Muslims were arrested, jailed, and humiliated. For what? For eating non-vegetarian chicken biryani on a boat on the Ganga River. Imagine this!

Are Canadians ready for that? Is any country importing these people ready for that? Because that is exactly what will happen to indigenous communities sooner or later.

Aligarh Muslim University was an elite institution, built and filled by the elites of the age. Its decline after 1970 is a strong argument in favor of elitism & against the social justice fever.

Today, Aligarh is an ordinary university when it should have been a Muslim Harvard.

Instead of following the third-rate entrance-exam route to admissions, Aligarh should have adopted a prestige-based approach.

You have taken admission to Aligarh? Who are you? Are you a Nawab's son? A Khan Bahadur's son? The son of a businessman?

Fine, you are none of these. Are you an extraordinarily sharp and unconventional academic student? Are you a promising man of letters (prose or poetry)? Are you a man of culture? Are you a man of art? Is your speech moving?

Why did you come to apply here?

This is what Aligarh was meant to be for Muslim society, not a Beta-Beti Parhai Yojana (Mass Education Scheme).

Elitism breeds standards, taste, culture, and most importantly, patronage through the flow of capital, which preserves an institution's character.

We lost that golden chance to continue Indian Muslim civilisation as something remarkable because we ruined our institutions, and we started doing that a long time ago.

Now, Aligarh Muslim University is an open book: anybody comes, anybody goes. The staff is so corrupt and nepotistic that even the honest among them feel suffocated and, if they try to fight back, are suppressed.
