Somalia’s political tensions are rising. With President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s term ending in May and Southwest State’s mandate expired since 2022, relations have broken down. Southwest State has suspended cooperation with the federal government, while Mogadishu no longer recognizes the current regional leadership. Urgent inclusive dialogue and respect for constitutional processes are needed to prevent further fragmentation.
