The Absence of Fiction in Biblical Times: Pastor James discusses the concept of fiction and its absence in Bible times. The parables of Jesus are not considered fiction, but rather real stories that teach a point. The Bible is viewed as the inerrant, inspired word of God, carefully preserved and passed down through the ages. **********. fiction that existed, just the concept of fiction didn't exist in Bible times. You say, well, what about the parables? Well, what about the parables? I believe the parables weren't fiction either. Jesus wrote about the prodigal son, the older brother and the younger brother. Well, Jesus had a bunch of brothers. Jesus grew up in a household. Mary and Joseph had other kids. I bet Jesus was talking about his own family. Now, if he wasn't talking about his own family, I bet he was talking about the family of some of the people that he knew. Maybe he was talking about some of the disciples and how they acted. I bet those are real stories. Those are real stories that are teaching a point, and that's not fiction. And so there wasn't fiction existent in the time of the Bible. Fiction as a literary thing happened a thousand years after Christ. That's when they started writing fiction. I think that's valuable to point out. And so that gives us a real authority of the scriptures, that it's the word of God, that it was inspired by God, that it was carefully written down, that people who loved the Lord were listening for the Lord and they were recording what the Lord sang, and that people worked for thousands of years to make sure that they accurately reproduced the word of the Lord for you. And here it is. The Bible is the word of God. It's inerrant. There are no errors. There are no errors. There's no mistakes here. God can't be all-powerful if he doesn't know how to get his word down through the ages to you.
