Britain's "flagship" floating wind project just sold for £1.

In 2022, TwinHub was hailed as a watershed moment for British floating wind. The 32 MW project became the first floating wind development in England to secure a government-backed Contract For Difference.

It received 15 years of government-backed support at a very generous £87 per MWh.

Developers said it would power 45,000 homes and help launch an entirely new British industry.

Four years later, though, inflation and soaring supply chain costs destroyed the original economics.

Developer Hexicon wrote down the project by £10.5 million, the government-backed contract was terminated, and the company sold the entire project, including its assets and liabilities, for £1.

The "flagship" of Britain's floating wind future was sold for the price of a supermarket trolley deposit.

The last 150 years is the greatest improvement in the human condition in the entire history of our species. It is not close.

Fire is down.

US burned area peaked at 52 million acres in 1930. It runs 5 to 10 million now. An 80 percent collapse. Global burned area, measured by satellite since the late 1990s, is down 25 percent.

Africa’s savannas, which used to dominate the global burn, have gone quiet as agriculture replaced fire-prone scrub.
The planet is greening.

Satellite data shows a leaf area increase equivalent to adding one entire Amazon rainforest to the Earth since 2000. Zhu et al. attributed 70 percent of the greening to CO2 fertilization. Deserts are shrinking at their edges. The Sahel is greener than it was 40 years ago.

Crops are exploding.

Global grain production has more than tripled since 1961 on roughly the same acreage. Yield per hectare on wheat, maize, and rice has quadrupled. Famine deaths per capita have fallen by roughly 99 percent since the 1870s.

People live twice as long.

Global life expectancy in 1875 was about 30 years. Today it is 73. More than doubled. In the developed world it went from 40 to over 80. Doubled again.

Children stop dying.

In 1800, 43 percent of children died before age 5. Today it is under 4 percent globally, under 1 percent in the developed world. A tenfold reduction. An order of magnitude.

Poverty collapsed.

In 1820, roughly 90 percent of humans lived in extreme poverty. Today it is under 9 percent, and falling. Another order of magnitude, while the global population grew from 1 billion to 8 billion. More people, vastly less poverty, per capita and in absolute terms.

Everyone can read.

Global literacy in 1875 was around 20 percent. Today it is 87 percent. Four times higher across a population that grew six times larger.

Everyone got rich.

Real GDP per capita globally (Maddison data, constant dollars) went from about $1,200 in 1870 to over $16,000 today. Roughly a fourteenfold increase. In the developed world, more like fiftyfold.

Weather stopped killing people.

Deaths from climate and weather related disasters peaked in the 1920s and 1930s at around 5 million per year, mostly drought and flood in Asia. Today, with five times the global population, it runs under 20,000 per year. A per capita reduction of over 99 percent. Two full orders of magnitude.

Work got easier.

Average annual working hours in developed economies fell from around 3,000 in 1870 to about 1,700 today. Roughly half. Child labor collapsed. Leisure exploded.

The cause is not a mystery.

Fossil fuels. Coal, oil, and natural gas turned muscle labor into machine labor. They powered fertilizer production (Haber-Bosch alone feeds roughly half the humans alive). They powered refrigeration, sanitation, hospitals, tractors, transport, and every step of the industrial food chain. Cheap dense energy is what dragged our species out of the Malthusian trap where it had lived for 10,000 years.

And the byproduct of that cheap dense energy, CO2, is the same molecule that is regreening the Earth and boosting crop yields on top of the mechanical gains.

Every actual measurement of the human condition and the biosphere shows the same thing.

Fires down. Green up. Lifespans up. Child deaths down. Poverty down. Hunger down. Wealth up. Literacy up. Weather deaths down. All by factors of 2 to 100 in a century and a half.

The industrial civilization the alarmists want to dismantle is the single largest engine of human and ecological improvement ever recorded. The data are not ambiguous. They are not close.

They are not debatable.

They are simply denied.

I'd have no hesitation in turning the boats back, but you could do this. When they arrived, if they had no documentation, they were told:

1. They are immediately under arrest for breaching the 1971 Immigration Act
2. Their asylum claim is immediately rejected

Jeremy Clarkson has been refused permission to sell food he grew himself, twice. In the same window, central government overruled a Lincolnshire council to put solar panels across 1,214 hectares of grazing land, an area the size of Heathrow.

Run the two columns side by side, because the pattern is the whole story.

He asked to open a restaurant in his own lambing shed. Refused.

He asked for a car park for the people already blocking the lane. Refused.

He asked to sell food produced more than sixteen miles away. Capped at sixteen.

He asked for a barn to store his own harvest, so he would not have to sell at whatever price August offered. Full application required.

He asked about the restaurant again. Enforcement notice, and six weeks judged ample to put the building back as it was.

Now the other column.

Had he covered those same fields in solar panels, the council could have refused and been overruled from Whitehall, as Lincolnshire was in October 2025.

Had he grown maize to feed an anaerobic digester, nobody would have written to anybody.

Had he taken £532 a hectare from Defra to grow a legume fallow, he would have been paid to leave a crop standing that may not be harvested, grazed or sold. Defra cut that rate this year and gave the reason in writing: it had become attractive enough to take land out of food production.

Had he sold the lot to a data centre, a battery park or a Chinese pig unit, all four of which he listed in his column last week, the paperwork would have moved considerably faster than a farm shop's.

There is your planning system. Every use of English farmland is easier to permit than farming.

Two hundred of his acres grew nothing at all this year, and the queue of people who want that ground for something other than food is already forming.

He is not being stopped from developing the countryside. He is being stopped from feeding it.

I woke up and as I had my morning coffee, I realized that everything is about to change. No matter how I vote, no matter what I say, something evil has invaded our nation, and our lives are never going to be the same.

I have been confused by the hostility of family and friends. I look at people I have known all my life--so hate-filled that they agree with opinions they would never express as their own. I think that I may well have entered the Twilight Zone.

You can't justify this insanity. We have become a nation that has lost its collective mind!

• If a man pretends to be a woman, you are required to pretend with him.

• Somehow it’s un-American for the census to count how many Americans are in America.

• Russians influencing our elections are bad, but illegals voting in our elections are good.

• It was cool for Joe Biden to "blackmail" the President of Ukraine, but it’s an impeachable offense if Donald Trump inquires about it.

• People who have never owned slaves should pay slavery reparations to people who have never been slaves.

• People who have never been to college should pay the debts of college students who took out huge loans for their degrees.

• Immigrants with tuberculosis and polio are welcome, but you’d better be able to prove your dog is vaccinated.

• Irish doctors and German engineers who want to immigrate to the US must go through a rigorous vetting process, but any illiterate gang-bangers who jump the southern fence are welcome.

• $5 billion for border security is too expensive, but $1.5 trillion for “free” health care is not.

• If you cheat to get into college you go to prison, but if you cheat to get into the country you go to college for free.

• People who say there is no such thing as gender are demanding a female President.

• We see other countries going Socialist and collapsing, but it seems like a great plan to us.

• Some people are held responsible for things that happened before they were born, and other people are not held responsible for what they are doing right now.

• Criminals are caught-and-released to hurt more people, but stopping them is bad because it's a violation of THEIR rights.

• And pointing out all this hypocrisy somehow makes us "racists"?!

Nothing makes sense anymore, no values, no morals, no civility and people are dying of a Chinese virus, but it racist to refer to it as Chinese even though it began in China.

We are clearly living in an upside down world where right is wrong and wrong is right, where moral is immoral and immoral is moral, where good is evil and evil is good, where killing murderers is wrong, but killing innocent babies is right.

Two hundred of the thousand acres at Diddly Squat grew nothing at all this year. That was a decision taken in advance, on a spreadsheet. Wheat or barley on that ground was a guaranteed loss before the drill left the shed, so Jeremy Clarkson left it bare and explained why in his Sun column this week.

One line from it went everywhere. Farmers have reached the point where it is quite simply impossible to make money from growing food. Every paper carried that sentence, and every paper stopped there.

The list underneath it did not get printed anywhere.

Because he went on to set out what two hundred acres of good English ground could do instead of feeding anyone, and there were four items on it.

- Rent it to a global agri-company growing crops for anaerobic digesters.
- Cover it in solar panels.
- Put a data centre on it.
- Sell the farm to a Chinese company for a multistorey high-intensity piggery.

Every one of those pays. The only use of that land which reliably loses money is the one that puts food on a British plate. He added that he was not being ridiculous, and that anybody in 1926 would have laughed you out of the room for suggesting the factories would be gone by 2026.

Now the bit with a date on it.

From 1 January 2027 the UK's carbon border tax applies to imported fertiliser. The Treasury's own costings put the take at £140 million in 2027-28, rising to £180 million the year after. Estimates of the hit run from around £33 a tonne to £75, which is a fifth to a quarter added to the largest input bill an arable farm carries. The Central Association of Agricultural Valuers has warned that a typical 500 acre cereals farm could be down as much as £70,000 once fertiliser and fuel costs land.

So the fertiliser that grows the wheat gets taxed on a known date, in writing, by a government that says out loud it wants food security.

Nobody in Whitehall has ever signed a policy to stop Britain growing food. They have signed a great many that make every alternative pay better, which arrives at the same field.

And understand whose field this is. Diddly Squat has a television crew, a farm shop with a queue down the lane, a pub, a lager brand, a bestselling book every autumn and one of the best land agents in the country. It is the most commercially advantaged thousand acres in Britain, and two hundred of them were left bare this year because putting seed in them was the losing move.

Every arable farmer in England is doing that same sum this autumn. Almost none of them have a production company to cover the difference.

Those two hundred acres have not gone out of production. They are waiting to hear which industry wants them more than you do.

Everyone is reacting to the videos from the Spanish enclave of Ceuta and asking what the hell is going on.

But the same pattern is unfolding across virtually every historically white, European-majority country in the world. Across Europe, the UK, Canada, the United States and Australia, there appears to be a clear and concerted effort to encourage both legal and illegal migration.

The result is even more pressure on housing, healthcare and public services that are already stretched. Meanwhile, native-born citizens are struggling financially and being asked to pay more and more to support large-scale migration they never voted for and, in many cases, clearly do not want.

Each of these countries has its own history, culture, language and social fabric. Citizens who want those things preserved are not hateful, and they should not be made to feel guilty for asking how many people their country can realistically absorb. Nor should they be afraid to ask why their own needs and future are constantly being placed behind those of new arrivals.

There is also an obvious question that very few leaders are willing to address. A large proportion of these arrivals are young men from societies where women often face severe discrimination, sexual abuse, forced marriage, child marriage, female genital mutilation and treatment as the property of men.

If the true priority is humanitarian protection, why are Western governments not doing far more to protect the vulnerable women and children trapped in those societies?

Why are the strongest and most mobile men being prioritized, while many of the women and girls most at risk are left behind with the same men and systems that subjugate them?

Why are European women expected to bear that social risk while citizens are told that even raising the question is unacceptable?

Andy Burnham, in two weeks of being PM, has perfectly illustrated the main problem in UK public finances.

Week 1: there's a cost of living crisis, so to help you we've taken £45 a year off your electricity bill and capped bus fares at £2.

Week 2: we don't have enough money to fund everything we want to do, so we're taking £630 a year out of your salary.

Same government, same month.

Credit where it's due first - taking VAT off electricity from October is real money, so is the £2 bus cap in January if you're on a bus twice a day. Immediate cost of living relief is genuinely needed by most people.

But I'm not sure how someone who couldn't manage without that £45 a year of relief is supposed to now manage with £630 a year less in their pocket?

The £630 is a 1.8% levy on income to fund a National Care Service costed at £18bn a year. On a £35,000 salary it's £630, on £50,000 it's £900.

It's charged as a percentage of your income.
It's collected out of your income.
It is not, apparently, income tax, because they're going to call it a levy.

It also only applies to taxpayers over 34... So you turn 35 and take a pay cut, at the exact age most people are stretched on a mortgage with childcare costing more than the mortgage.

But the UKs ACTUALLY problem? Spending is too high. And it's too high in ways that are fixable if anyone was willing to challenge the status quo rather than buy more votes with handouts.

This is where £1,383bn goes this year:

Health, £269.6bn
Pensions, £236.3bn
Welfare, £204.0bn
Education, £126.7bn
Debt interest, £104.6bn
Defence, £75.2bn
Everything else, £367.1bn

Health, £269.6bn: We need mandatory health insurance as an employment benefit and a hybrid model. Everyone hears "insurance" and pictures America, someone bleeding out over a copay, as if no other model exists on earth.

The Netherlands has mandatory private health insurance. Insurers are legally required to accept everyone. They cannot charge you more for being chronically ill. A risk equalisation pool moves money towards the insurers covering the sickest people. It's consistently ranked top three in Europe.

Welfare, £204.0bn: Income tax raises £330bn. So almost 2 of every 3 pounds of Income Tax taken from every working person in this country is spoken for by the welfare bill.

Welfare should be for people who cannot work. Disability, genuine incapacity, the people it was built to protect. It has drifted into a general income top-up, and the number that proves it is 4.2 million working age people now claiming at least one health related benefit, up a million since 2019.

Change how we determine eligibility, fix a lot of spending issues immediately.

Pensions, £236.3bn: The state pension is a Ponzi scheme, and I mean that technically rather than as an insult. There is no fund - the ONS says so plainly. Your National Insurance is not being put aside and invested for your State Pension, It just pays the payouts for last year's pensioners. Yours depends entirely on there being enough workers behind you.

Which, btw, there won't be. The ratio of pensioners to workers goes from 27% to 48% by 2050 (and these estimates are before we've seen the proper impact of AI/automation on jobs.

Australia already fixed this: 12% of earnings into a private fund with your name on it, mandatory, employer paid. It's your money, it compounds, it doesn't need a bigger generation behind you to work.

We could mandate the same tomorrow and let the state pension run down over the next 40 years, eventually saving £236bn a year.

You can't levy your way out of these problems. A 1.8% charge on everyone over 34 raises £18bn. It doesn't even cover the interest on our existing debt.

And in the meantime... If we're going to borrow anyway, why is none of it buying anything?

Norway found oil in 1969 and put the money in a fund... That fund is now worth $2.049 trillion. It holds a stake in roughly 1.5% of every listed company on the planet.

We found oil in the same decade and spent it.

The UK's National Wealth Fund is capitalised at £27.8bn. Norway's is about 73 times bigger.

So where is our position in AI, in data centres, in grid scale renewables, in batteries, in electric vehicles, in any of the things the next fifty years actually runs on? We borrow £133bn a year and almost none of it buys an asset.

Fix government spending immediately, increase government income over time (without milking people for every penny of 'levy' you can find), and quality of life will genuinely improve as people have more money in their pockets.

The UK has a spending problem, not a tax problem.

According to this DARPA document dated August 13th, 2021, they knew at that time:
- Covid came from a lab
- That the mRNA 'vaccines' worked "poorly"
- That ivermectin worked (since April 2020)
- That hydroxychloroquine worked (ditto)

DARPA informed the Inspector General, and all parties chose to say nothing to the public about any of it.
