Our goal is simple: expose abuse of the PIP and Motability Scheme, not to attack it, but to safeguard it.
Motability means independence, dignity, and freedom. โฟ๐
๐ Merry Christmas everyone! ๐
...especially Andrew Miller of @MotabilityOps , congratulations on the 24% pay rise!
ยฃ748,000 -> ยฃ924,000! ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฐ
We wanted to raise awareness of the Motability Scheme and, over 100,000 lookups later, that's exactly what we did.
A promise is a promise. Goodbye, for now.
Thanks to all involved, especially @maxtempers for bringing it to everyone's attention.

'BUT YOU CAN'T JUST TAKE BMWS OFF THE LIST'
'IT'S AN INDEPENDENT CHARITY'
'WE PAY FOR IT OURSELVES (IGNORE ALL THE TAX EXEMPTIONS'
'IT'S ACTUALLY REALLY REALLY COMPLICATED'
The HOURS of wasted discussion. Turns out you can just get rid of them all. With immediate effect.
๐ DID YOU KNOW? Motability isnโt just a charity...
...itโs a car finance scheme run by a private company owned by four banks. It sits on billions from taxpayer-funded disability benefits.
Did you see a BMW i4 Gran Coupe on Motability on the school run today? We did!
This car costs *ยฃ20,018* over 3 years - or *69%* of their TOTAL PIP allowance!
Is it right that premium cars are available from a disability benefit meant for "daily living"?

If #Motability is a charity, why are multiple LTD, PLC & IoM companies, FOUR banks and a private insurer involved?
Cosy charity or corporate gravy train?
Nobody knows.
Something very strange going on here:

That vehicle is a BMW X5...which has *never* been available via the Motability Scheme.
Care to explain @BBCNewsNI ?
*FACT CHECK* - Are Motability vehicles *FREE*?
*No* - users typically pay an up-front fee (c. ยฃ500-ยฃ8000) to LEASE a vehicle for 3 years. They also forfeit their entire enhanced mobility PIP (ยฃ77.05 per week).
Thus, a Motability car costs users ~ยฃ12k over 3 years (plus fee).
We are hopeful that this change will help bring to an end to the rampant abuse of the Motability Scheme.
This is a vital scheme to help disabled people live and work with dignity and independence ๐ช๐

@harry__politics Our system uses a number of open datapoints to check and verify vehicle registrations.
As stated on the website this is perfectly legal, indeed anyone can pay for an HPI check on any vehicle should they wish.
We estimate the accuracy to be 99.9%.
There's nothing illegal going on here at all - eligible PIP recipients can spend their payments how they wish. Indeed, the majority don't use the Motability scheme.
But is a BMW i4 an appropriate, state-funded car to hand out? That's for you to judge.
Motability was setup to offer disabled people functional cars to give them independence and dignity, NOT high-performance luxury cars.
With this car sucking up an EIGHT GRAND non-refundable deposit and 100% of someone's mobility allowance it's a frankly BIZARRE use of taxes.
