Before-and-after images of the Roman ruins show that the Israeli strike blew off the top section of an ancient column - at a minimum. The entrance to the site was also completely shattered.
As someone who has wandered countless times through these picturesque vestiges, it was deeply dystopian to see debris scattered across Tyre’s cherished archaeological site.
I could not identify any military targets that would justify striking a UNESCO-protected area.
An event is planned to be hosted in London proudly promoting the sale of land on illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.
This is obscene. I've called on @MayorofLondon and @YvetteCooperMP to stop the event and for this govt to take real action on illegal settlements.
For many years, I took barbs for refusing to call Israel's policy in East Jerusalem "ethnic cleansing". After all, there were 60,000 Palestinians in East Jerusalem in 1967, and 400,000 today. Occupation sucked, and included war crimes, but it wasn't ethnic cleansing.
That has changed now.
There are 3 Palestinian neighborhoods, all of whose residents are being or are about to be displaced: Batan al-Hawa and al-Bustan in Silwan, and Um Haroun in Sheik Jarrah. The latter two are being razed, or will be razed in the near future.
And immediately to the east, the Bedouin hamlet of Khan al-Akmar, adjacent to E-1, is about to be expelled, part of an attempt to "cleanse" Area C between East Jerusalem and the Jordan River valley of its Palestinian residents.
Regrettably, I can think of no other term to use other than "ethnic cleansing".
Reporting from the historic city of Tyre for @TheNationalNews. We saw clear damage at one of the archaeological sites, where wreckage was scattered among ancient Roman ruins and a column had been broken by an Israeli strike on Sunday. The attack targeted, and completely obliterated, a heritage house just a few metres away.
The area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, which legally protects landmarks or areas legally because of their “outstanding value to humanity.”
Israel asking the residents of Tyre (one of Lebanon's major coastal cities) to evacuate is no different to the British asking all Belfast residents to leave the city and its suburbs because of the presence of a IRA operatives.
I'm no friend of Hezbollah, but Israel is making it impossible for the Lebanese Gov to build support for peace.

Three years after the case was initiated by us, HSBC has now been indicted in France over its alleged role in helping Riad Salameh divert hundreds of millions of dollars. https://t.co/vbyTXOAHOK
HSBC is now under formal investigation in France over Lebanese central bank scandal.
If you're wondering why, last year we published a long investigation showing how the bank turned a blind eye to millions embezzled from Lebanon's central bank, based on internal leaks. @PublicEyeSuisse first exposed the bank's "serious failings".
After years investigating financial crime in Lebanon, I’m now documenting Israeli war crimes.
I learned one thing: accountability is possible. The evidence is there. What is missing is the will to act.

@toters_delivery your riders are becoming a danger and a pest in the of Beirut.
It’s putting me off your service. Breaking road laws, no number plates, dangerous driving, eyes on the phone… please fix it!
On June 8, 2026, I’ll speak on the floor of the House to honor and memorialize the brave crew of the 🇺🇸 USS Liberty who died and were wounded in an unprovoked attack by 🇮🇱 Israel on June 8, 1967. Catch my speech on @cspan.
The Israeli army blew up my aunt Zeinab’s house yesterday. She is the fourth immediate family member of mine to have her house destroyed by the IDF in the past two months, ours was destroyed in April.
The IDF knew that this house had no weapons or any sort of military presence, since as can be seen on the fourth photo, they had occupied it for a few days before destroying it: we’ve obtained a subscription to a satellite service, and have been monitoring the area daily to check on our family’s homes. The house was destroyed yesterday as part of a systematic and evil process of destroying every single house in the village of Bint Jbeil.
Israel has been making my family homeless for generations. My grandparents lost their homes to them once. My mother has lost her home to them three times, and myself twice.
None of us have ever been involved in any sort of “resistance” or military action against Israel. In every case, we have been uninvolved, innocent civilians: I am a cryptographer, my mother is a retired journalist, and my father a deceased philosophy professor. My uncles and aunts are history professors and homemakers.
May the world bear witness to this.
The announcement by President Trump about the potential peace deal is very good news.
To make the deal effective we have to be realistic about Israel.
We must recognize that a peace deal of any kind with the Iranian regime will be viewed by Israelis as an existential threat to their objectives, therefore they will seek to thwart the deal.
To stop the Israelis from thwarting a potential peace deal, we will have to take away the military support that we provide that allows them to go on the offensive against Iran, and make it clear more will be taken from them if they attack Lebanon.
The Dutch government has just approved import ban on goods from illegal Israeli settlements.
Third EU government after Spain and Slovenia. Some more underway.
The ICJ made clear this is a legal obligation for all states under international law.

#Syria's province of #Suwayda has emerged as a narco state, run by remnants of #Assad's regime & organized crime leaders -- and protected by #Israel.
My latest for @newlinesmag contains *a lot* of exclusive information.

Shocking to see the destruction by IDF in #Lebanon with whole villages razed to the ground, destruction of 50,000 homes, & over 2,600 dead & over 8,000 injured since latest bombing began on 2 March. Same tactics as in #Gaza. When, if ever, will there be accountability?
Mabrouk another A330neo for MEA.
No surprise when #Beirut remains one of the most overpriced routes in the region : often 3× higher
Paris ✈️ Beirut: €800- €1200
Paris ✈️ Cyprus / Tel Aviv: €250- €350.
A diaspora that kept #Lebanon 🇱🇧 alive now struggles just to come home.
There is a name for boarding a ship and abducting innocent civilians in international waters, @BBCWorld. Its not called 'interception'. The word is piracy.
Lebanon can no longer endure wars fought on its soil on behalf of others, nor can Hezbollah continue to sell the illusion of victory.
There is no shame in negotiating with Israel if the goal is to end the war, recover territory, and secure a lasting peace.
