Congratulations to @XavierBecerra. I am excited to offer him all the support I can as he sets out to become our state’s next governor.
This race has featured a large field with many strong candidates, and I am confident that our party will now unite behind Xavier and his calm, steady brand of leadership.
I have been fortunate to see firsthand how Xavier never shies away from the biggest fights, whether it was taking on the drug companies as Secretary of Health and Human Services or going after sex traffickers and big polluters as California’s Attorney General. I know as Governor, he will do whatever it takes to stand up to Donald Trump, defend our rights, and protect our communities.
I look forward to standing with Xavier as California makes history by electing our first Latino governor in 150 years.
Let’s see …
Karen Bass - first Black woman Speaker of the CA House of Representatives; Chair of the CBC; Chair of the Foreign Affairs Africa Subcommittee; short list for Joe Biden’s VP; Mayor of Los Angeles
Xavier Becerra - member of the CA legislature; Chair of the CHC; Vice Chair of the US House Democratic Caucus; member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee; CA Attorney General; US Secty of Health and Human Services
These are ACCOMPLISHED leaders, glass ceiling breakers in their respective communities and not folks … “just hanging around.”

Xavier Becerra, candidate for California Governor, has just received 1,731,585 votes from Californians.
This brings California’s total contribution in support of Xavier Becerra to 26.8% of the vote and he advances to general election in race for California governor, according to the AP.
You know who else is mad at Becerra???
MEDIA 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
All that money they got from Steyer was supposed to be for him but look at them now!!! Reluctantly admitting Becerra has won!!!
Victory is SOOOO SWEET.
It’s exactly what I needed after this whole ass mess of a race.
California has spoken. Thank you for standing with us. To every volunteer who made a call, sent a text, knocked a door, or showed up when it mattered most — this victory belongs to you.
We're just getting started. On to November.
California hasn’t had a Latino governor since 1875. Xavier Becerra’s near-certain election is a huge historical moment for all of us. This is long overdue for a state with a population that is over 40% Latino.
Not only has this CA Gov race been messy overall this shows how well CA voters were paying attention and how well we PIVOTED.
KUDOS to the voters for rejecting Steyer.
PERIOD.
Happy Pride, California! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
As governor, I will fight for our LGBTQ+ community and make sure that everyone has the right to live and thrive as their true selves - including our transgender community, whose rights, dignity, and freedom must always be protected.
Together, we can build a California where everyone is safe, supported, and celebrated.
Tonight, I'm surrounded by the people who made this possible. Volunteers who knocked doors, Californians who showed up, and a movement that never stopped believing.
We don't have final results yet — ballots are still being counted. But tonight feels good.
The California Dream is alive. And we're just getting started.
