I sincerely believe that Dom has created a racist structure at National -- one that does not serve inside members -- and that we cannot advocate for abolition unless we change within. I ask our board to embrace that change by holding Dom to account.
In staff meetings our ED Dominique dismissed this as racism by "white abolitionists" & I nodded along. I only understood after Dom fired poc after poc. Racism is core to the unjust structures abolition seeks to uproot. It is not racist to insist on abolition.
I ask the board to remember that doing harm also harms the harm-doer, and so it is an act of kindness to bring together our community to support our ED and org in change. Together, we really can make B&P the org of our abolitionist dreams. Our members deserve nothing less ๐ค
Iโm the bookkeeper at Black & Pink, and I've been involved in @blacknpinkunion. But I speak only on behalf of myself: I found these essays to be harrowing & unsurprising. They describe patterns I have seen of overwork, burnout, and emotional manipulation. https://t.co/0LSsmjoARu
A union protects us from some of these abuses, but it cannot make amends for staff who have been harmed, or change toxic patterns from leadership. I beg our board to hold our ED to a process of accountability and repair.
