Did anyone else chuckle at the "there's only enough money to go around, what should residents and taxpayers be prepared for?" As if MPD hasn't been a racist boondoggle for a while.
Lucero followed up the mayor's answer by saying "discrimination is expensive."
I am so fucking glad to live in this place and time where I’m reasonably confident that my kid and their peers are supported and loved in ways my crew wasn’t as kids, and for the suffering and lives this will save.
My kid is 8 and has gone thru times of preferring they/them pronouns, she/they pronouns, or she/her pronouns.
I’m so grateful that their are zero adults in their life who deny them this power to re-define themselves.
At the same time, I have friends over 30 living into their own transness and pansexuality for the first fucking time, having spent decades not seeing their whole selves or, worse, hating pieces of themselves. Mostly due to the discomfort + struggles of adults in their lives.
🎉💫Restore the Vote has passed the Senate with bipartisan support!!!! This is now going to the governor to be signed!!! Voting Rights Restoration will be the law of the land in MN!!!! 🙌🏾
Thank You, @SenatorChampion!!!

Inconsistent on what level of government should preempt the other.
Consistent on fighting for business to exploit workers.
I’m glad he lost both fights.

Kurt Daudt, fighting to amend paid sick and safe days bill being voted last night in the House: cities should preempt the state (so that cities don’t have to provide sick and safe time to workers)
It's official: The Minnesota House has passed legislation, with bipartisan support, to restore the right to vote for people who were formerly incarcerated. Congratulations to bill author @CedrickFrazier and the @RTVMN coalition that has worked for years to make this possible.
Did you know that wage theft amounts to as much as $50 billion every year stolen from workers, while all the robberies in the U.S. put together add up to under $500 million, just 1% of the wage theft total.
Of all the failed amendments that Sen Rasmusson offered in today’s hearing on paid family medical leave the one I’m most glad failed is the one that would pay for leave by taxing all workers, but only employers with 50 employees or more.
Interesting idea from a rep for small businesses: PFML is gonna exacerbate staffing problems.
Data shows the opposite: paid time off to care *increases* worker retention.
It’s not that people don’t wanna work, it’s that they can’t work thru medical crises.
Fun Fact: Of the nine people who received votes for Speaker of the House...
Jim Banks
Andy Biggs
Byron Donalds
Kevin Hern
Hakeem Jeffries
Jim Jordan
Kevin McCarthy
Donald Trump
Lee Zeldin
Only 1 has never cast a vote in favor of overthrowing the United States government
If your local news stories included police staffing numbers when violent crime was up, you should keep doing it in your stories about violent crime being down.
My top mobility policy of 2022:
Denver offering residents $400 off an e-bike or $900 off an e-cargo bike (low-income residents get more).
4,700+ have participated. According to the city, the avg recipient now uses an e-bike/cargo e-bike in lieu of a car ~3.4x/week.
