The prey species include sambar deer (Rusa unicolor), mouse deer (Tragulus javanicus), and Malayan porcupine (Hystrix brachyura), all essential to the Malayan tiger’s ecological food chain.
SITE ASSESSMENT VISITS FOR PROPOSED MALAYAN TIGER PREY SPECIES BREEDING PROJECT
MPOGCF, in collaboration with PERHILITAN and FELDA, conducted site assessment visits from 7–10 April across six potential locations in Johor, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan.
Animals successfully bred will undergo further assessment, with their offspring handed over to PERHILITAN for reintroduction into the wild within the Malayan tiger’s distribution range, strengthening prey populations in natural habitats.
