If you knew anything about character art you'd understand why this argument doesn't make the point you are trying to make.
Here is my take as someone who did characters for a living once:
Characters need to be appealing because you either want the player to be that character or be with that character.
There is an argument that the obsession of games with making everything realistic also leads down the path of ugly characters because now you have the uncanny valley plus trying to match a real person instead of an idealized one.
