Little dude in 4th grade found out I love dinosaurs, so he drew me one immediately. Then he says, "I'd love to see your drawing!" I feel called out and challenged. 🦖 #giftededucation#internationaleducation
As I'm wrapping up my second week of being back in education after nearly 6 months off, one thing I've quickly learned is this: kids have ridiculous grit and resilience, and they're constantly working to overcome this pandemic their own way.
Perhaps you're intending to show "fairness" or "both sides", but claiming or accepting claims of "reverse racism" has a damaging impact. 'Reverse racism' is fiction: a narrative that bypasses history/reality and a tool to maintain White supremacy.#IntentVsImpact@emilymeadowsorg
It's been awhile, but "forced sabbatical" is over, my immigration hurdle is mostly behind me, and I'm teaching again. 5th grade Social Studies, I'm excited to be back!
Just finished my first Code Switch epi. Thanks a ton, @msbinashah for the recommend! This is why identity work by people like @DanielWickner is so important! Give it a listen + check out Dan and other people doing similar work in identity building. https://t.co/Do7FPv1Axr
What've I been up to since beginning my forced sabbatical? I learned audio recording/editing and started a podcast discussing life abroad and the issues/events connected. Listen to the most recent epi feat. an old friend and colleague @DanielWickner https://t.co/1Ix9DYwZRN
@msbinashah I'm currently on a work visa, but am undergoing a change in legal status (being married changes things?), But COVID19 has really pushed the timeline of things back. It will all work out 🤞
So the 2019-20 school year ended for me, and I'm unsure as to how I can best summarize it. On top of that, as I wait for a change in legal immigration status in the US, I find myself pushed into a forced sabbatical. The classroom has been home for the last 7 years.
@NKB121@scorcher74 Right. I meant that since it is so gate-driven, they perhaps feel more compelled to return even to empty stadiums to help soften the economic blow. The idea is that something is better than nothing. The other major leagues may have deeper pockets to help buy time.
Thank you to Ms. Emily Arnold-Fernandez of @asylumaccess for stopping by to talk about human rights and advocating for refugee rights! 5th grader, Taylor, did a fantastic job of cohosting our Q&A yesterday. Be part of the solution when fighting for human rights! #standupMIS
@madalenameihua@nytopinion "Having no plan is the plan! Haven’t you been listening? Plans are for commies and the Danish. Here we do it fast and loose and dumb and wrong, and occasionally we have a man who manufactures pillows come to the White House...." - I laughcried then....
Ep. 2 of the Tater Tats and Tic Tats Weekly has gone live! In these times, I'm trying to figure out more ways to connect with my kids and make it more personal. Why not break out as a YouTube creator? @TheCrashCourse History, I'm coming for your views!
