One of the most insane things I've ever seen.
Hangzhou has a population of 12 million people.
Hangzhou’s economy is led by Alibaba, Ant Group and NetEase, e-commerce, cloud, AI, intelligent IoT, NEVs, biomedicine, new materials, plus tourism, and finance.
Those of you who've never been to China: Have you heard of Hangzhou? Honestly?
Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent?
For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir, which according to the UN, amounts to torture and which is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health.
He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.
The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.
He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.
Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.
Yet those orders are being defied.
This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.
He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.
His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls.
I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father.
@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court; restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.
Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government to please now do the right thing.
'The relative lack of interest in Imran Khan’s fate, other than among Britons of Pakistani heritage, is mystifying'
'Whatever mistakes he made as PM, Khan is a symbol of democratisation in a country that has been pillaged for decades by a military junta'
@DanielJHannan examines why 'that should be enough to make his cause ours' ⬇️

Wheat fields and CBD skyscrapers can coexist in 🇨🇳Hangzhou, China!
This is the most vivid picture of Chinese modernization: from an agricultural country to a global industrial and tech power hub!
Imran Khan's medical reports are alarming. I have gone through them with several specialists, and I am writing this in plain language so every Pakistani can understand exactly what is happening.
In order of priority, this is what worries me most: his anxiety and stress levels, his palpitations, and his high blood pressure. Sleeplessness is not mentioned in the report, but looking at the medications, it is almost certainly there too.
I have known Imran Khan for more than 35 years. Stress was never his weakness. That it is now at peak levels tells you everything about what three years of imprisonment and total isolation have done to him.
The causes are not hard to understand: the state of the country, his colleagues in jail, those sentenced, the killed, and their grieving families. His own isolation, no newspapers, no books, no knowledge of what is happening outside. And yes, his anxiety over Bushra Bibi, his sisters, his workers and his party.
Look at the medications, as there is no diagnosis. He is on Citanil and Lexotanil, three times a day. That is not sleeplessness being treated. That is daytime anxiety being treated. Read that twice.
His heart rate is 54 bpm. Doctors will call that "normal." It is not normal for him. His resting heart rate has been in the low 40s his whole adult life, the mark of a lifelong elite athlete. A jump to 54 is a real shift.
He has reported heart palpitations. That is not something to note and move on from. It needs a 24-hour Holter monitor immediately, to catch the frequency and get him on the right medication. Even an Apple Watch linked to an Apple ID outside Pakistan (as that function is disabled in Pakistan) can flag Atrial Fibrillation and palpitations in real time.
He is on three separate BP medications now. That requires proper daily AM/PM monitoring to titrate correctly, not once-a-week guesswork. He is also on a cholesterol-lowering drug. Raised cholesterol at his age is both genetic and stress-driven, and needs diet, exercise, and medication working together, as does his blood pressure. Less salt. More movement. Real monitoring.
And the following tests that must happen now, without further delay:
1) A Stress Test
2) An Echocardiogram
3) Cardiac MRI
4) Cardiac Artery Calcium (CAC) scan, because of raised cholesterol to check for calcified deposits that block arteries and lead directly to heart attacks or the need for stents.
5) Cardiac CT Angiogram and other tests if indicated.
I am deeply worried. Isolation is taking a physical toll on his body. If this is not addressed immediately, the damage may become irreversible with more complications to follow.
@ImranKhanPTI definitely needs to be moved to a hospital environment now, under an independent panel of doctors. Neither his family nor the people of Pakistan trust government-appointed doctors alone. We have already seen reports manipulated before, numbers exaggerated or suppressed, platelets among them.
The next three months will decide whether his condition is reversed or becomes permanent.
We all are alarmed.
The country needs him more than ever before. May Allah keep him healthy. Ameen. 🤲

What could #Pakistan get out of #USIRANpeacedeal ?
In my opinion, the biggest win for Pak could be if we can legalise Pak-Iran boarder Oil trade, It could actually get gas-pipeline operational. This would give us a big relief in terms of decreasing our total oil & gas import bill
High cortisol is the real reason you wake up at 3-4 AM.
It also shaves 5 years off your life — tanks testosterone, locks belly fat, literally shrinks your brain.
If I wanted to fix it without medication, here are 8 things I'd do every day:
1. No food 3 hours before bed.
🇵🇰 The man Khan fired is now running Pakistan's nukes.
Think about that for a second. Munir was sacked by Khan in 2019 after just eight months as ISI chief. Eight months. Khan threw him out after he went to Tehran with the Pakistani delegation and blew up the room, went completely off the script the government had agreed on internally, used language with Iranian officials that had no business being used, and actively wrecked what could have been a genuine step toward better Pakistan-Iran ties. Iran complained directly to Khan. Khan fired him.
That same man now controls 170 nuclear warheads with zero institutional checks left standing.
What happened between getting fired and getting the keys is the part that should make every Pakistani furious. After the sacking, Munir allegedly flew to London and sat down with Nawaz Sharif, who was conveniently living in self imposed exile at the time. Khan called it the London Plan. The deal as Khan described it was straightforward, Munir gets army chief, Khan's government gets taken apart, his party gets destroyed, the judiciary plays along. Sounds insane until you watch it happen exactly like that, step by step, over the next three years.
Munir became army chief in November 2022 in a process multiple reports said involved heavy consultations with the same Nawaz Sharif sitting in London. Within months Khan was arrested. Shariar waltzed back into Pakistan in October 2023 and had most of his convictions vacated almost overnight. By February 2024 his brother was prime minister, the elections were rigged openly and Washington and Brussels said nothing.
Then Munir really got to work. He promoted himself to Field Marshal, invented a brand new title of Chief of Defence Forces, and passed the 27th Constitutional Amendment scrapping the Nuclear Command Authority that had existed since 2000. That authority existed for one reason, to make sure no single person could ever make a nuclear decision alone. It required the prime minister, the joint chiefs, the service chiefs, all in the room. All of that is now gone. Munir replaced it with the National Strategic Command, headed by himself, answerable to nobody above him. The prime minister's only remaining role is to appoint people Munir recommends.
Pakistan has 170 nuclear warheads. Every single one of them now answers to one man.
Khan, the man who saw all of this coming and tried to stop it, has been rotting in a cell for nearly 3 years. And Munir gets called "my favorite Field Marshal" by Trump.

China just made Silicon Valley's entire AI industry look like a scam.
The US government spent 3 years trying to stop China from building competitive AI.
But this backfired HORRIBLY.
Here's what happened:
Yesterday, a Chinese startup called DeepSeek released a new AI model called V4.
It matches the performance of OpenAI and Anthropic's best models.
At 1/7th the price.
And for the first time ever, it was built on Chinese chips. NOT American ones.
That last part is the one that terrifies the west.
For context:
Since 2022, the US has banned the export of advanced AI chips to China. The entire strategy was built on the assumption that if China can't access Nvidia's best hardware, they can't build frontier AI.
But DeepSeek just proved that assumption wrong.
Their V4 model was trained and runs on Huawei's Ascend chips. Huawei spent months working directly with DeepSeek to make sure V4 runs across their entire line of AI processors.
Jensen Huang even predicted this on a recent podcast: "The day that DeepSeek comes out on Huawei first, that is a horrible outcome for our nation."
That day was yesterday.
And the numbers are crazy:
DeepSeek V4 costs $3.48 per million output tokens. OpenAI's latest model GPT-5.5 costs $30. Anthropic's Claude charges $25. Same ballpark performance. 7x cheaper.
Uber's CTO just admitted they burned through their ENTIRE 2026 AI budget in 4 months using Anthropic's tools.
If Uber had used DeepSeek instead, that same budget would have lasted 7 YEARS.
4 months vs 7 years. Same work getting done.
But the pricing isn't even the big thing here.
The real story is what DeepSeek did with their technical report:
They published the benchmarks where they LOSE.
Every AI company cherry-picks the tests where their model wins. DeepSeek ran the full comparison against GPT-5.4 and Google's Gemini, found they trail frontier models by 3 to 6 months, and printed it anyway.
They literally don't care because the price gap makes the performance gap irrelevant for 90% of use cases.
So the US export controls didn't slow China down. They ACCELERATED China's independence.
Because Chinese developers were FORCED to train models with limited resources, they had to figure out how to make AI radically more efficient. That constraint became their competitive advantage.
Every generation of DeepSeek has gotten dramatically cheaper to train. V4 continues the trend.
Meanwhile US companies are going the OPPOSITE direction:
OpenAI's GPT-5.5 Pro costs $180 per million output tokens. That's 51x more expensive than DeepSeek V4 for comparable work.
The Commerce Secretary confirmed this week that ZERO Nvidia advanced chip shipments have actually gone through to China despite being approved in January.
So China built frontier AI anyway. Without American chips. At a fraction of the cost.
And the market response tells you everything:
Chinese chipmaker SMIC surged 10%. Huahong Semiconductor jumped 15%. DeepSeek's Chinese AI competitors Zhipu AI and MiniMax dropped 9% because V4 is destroying them too.
DeepSeek is making Silicon Valley's pricing model look like a scam.
US tech companies spent $650 billion on AI infrastructure this year. DeepSeek just showed the world you can match their output for pennies.
The export controls were supposed to be America's ace card. Instead they taught China how to win without American chips, at American prices nobody can compete with.
Jensen Huang was right. This is a horrible outcome.
But it's the outcome America built for itself.
man. end of an era.
Tim Cook just stepped down as CEO of Apple after 15 years.
And if you look at who Apple picked to replace him, the story gets way more interesting.
Steve Jobs saved Apple with products. Tim Cook scaled it with operations. Apple just picked an engineer to run it in the AI age.
His name is John Ternus.
No MBA. No finance background. No marketing resume.
Just 25 years of building the actual things Apple sells.
He led the shift to Apple Silicon. Killed Intel. Shipped the M1. Hardware engineering lead on every iPhone, Mac, iPad, AirPods, and Vision
Pro of the last decade.
The youngest exec on Apple's leadership team.
Here's what nobody is saying.
Apple doesn't pick CEOs. It picks weapons for the next war.
→ Late 1990s. Apple was dying from bad products and a broken strategy. It brought back Jobs, a product guy, and made him CEO.
→ 2011. Apple had the best products but needed massive scale. It picked Cook, an operator, to turn it into a supply‑chain and cash‑generation machine.
→ 2026. Apple has the best devices on the planet and some of the weakest AI narrative in big tech. It just picked Ternus, an engineer, to run the company in the AI hardware era.
The AI war won't be won on chatbots. It will be won on the chips AI actually runs on. Ternus built those chips.
Tim Cook added over 700 million dollars in market cap every single day he was CEO.
Apple went from 348 billion to over 4 trillion on his watch.
The hardest shoes to fill in tech just got handed to the quietest engineer in the company.
Might be exactly the right guy at exactly the right time.
