Based on the documented timeline:

Dec 2023 IBA-UFBU MoU and March 2024 bipartite settlement recorded IBA’s recommendation for 5-day banking (all Saturdays as holidays, with +40 min daily hours Mon-Fri). IBA forwarded it to the Government.

Over 2.5 years later, no NI Act Sec 25 notification has been issued. DFS/FinMin has repeatedly stated the matter is “under consideration” or “continues to be examined,” including as of 21 Sep 2026, despite conciliations and prior assurances that deferred strikes.

Unions agreed to the compensatory terms and have pursued implementation through talks then action after delays.

The stalemate responsibility rests with the Government/DFS, which alone can issue the required notification.

Sucheta Dalal has spent decades finding only shortcomings in PSBs while completely ignoring their staggering turnaround and record profits in recent years.

Always the same selective outrage against public sector banks. Never the same energy when private banks or big corporate defaulters are involved.

Every 24x7 banking service has a banker behind it and a family waiting at home. We agreed to the 5-day week in March 2024 and accepted longer weekday hours. The regulator, the insurer and the Government all work 5 days.
