Microsoft revealed on Sunday plans to launch three new variations of its Xbox Series consoles for the upcoming holiday season, two of which will lack disc drives. The company's plans speak to how developers have gradually been releasing more games digitally in recent years, a trend that doesn't bode well for GameStop, whose business specializes in selling games printed on discs. Last year, 3,157 games were released digitally compared with 183 on discs, according to Circana. Back in 2019, the market-research firm says 1,480 games were released digitally and 307 were on discs.
