@ingelramdecoucy I assume that in academia Roxane Gay is pretty untouchable for identity-related and leftist-movement-status reasons,
but *unless the clip is taken out of context*, it sure looks like she's using Harvard as a platform to encourage people to go out and commit murder
@MatNuclear That may be true for leftist-atheists (who, admittedly, might be the majority of western atheists) but there are definitely famous examples to the contrary.
Sam Harris for sure has criticized Islam, and I believe so has Christopher Hitchens, for example
@benryanwriter The likely thing is that they'll deny that obesity has any correlation to bad health stuff, and claim that the idea of a correlation is white supremacist, transphobic, sexist etc.
It's a religion, and one especially prone to ignoring what's staring it right in the face
@ingelramdecoucy if anything, they'll probably conclude "this story about the insane trans-communist ideologues is super popular! That must mean there are tons of people who agree with their ideology. The way to increase our readership is to adopt that worldview and spread its propaganda!"
This is only a slight variation of what a bunch of people did regarding Charlie Kirk.
"That's sad, but maybe if he didn't insist on continuing to say those things..."
It's the chorus of people who might not themselves carry out the ultimate act of violence, but they absolutely want the violence -- committed by their fellow travelers -- to succeed in accomplishing their shared political objective.
They don't want to carry out the violence. But they sure as hell want the violence to work.
No I don’t think the response to an assassination should be giving in to the political demands of the assassin.
That’s just you wanting the assassin to be successful. And it makes you a nutjob.
