After three weeks of careful and detailed carpentry wood work, Peter Picasso, has completed my 8 seater dining table made from mahogany timber.

I first learnt that Picasso, a university graduate with a degree in Graphics Design and Animation was a carpenter, after I found him with a chisel chopping and chipping on a huge tree trunk complete with its roots--and telling me that he was making a custom, bespoke chair for a client who wanted it for an eco lodge.

I stopped and listened to his story, how after graduating from university, he went back to what he told me was his first love--carpentry.

"I want to apply my design skills to shape and make wood products,"he told me in 2018.
" I have always wanted to be a carpenter, "he said while holding 'elanda'-- a plane, that instrument, tool used by carpenters to smoothen the rough surfaces of timber.

I then asked him to do for me a piece of art made from wood with words " KEEP HOPE ALIVE "inscribed on it.

He did an excellent job, that when I posted it on Facebook, my former school asked that he does for them a king size badge with the school motto: I SERVE inscribed on it.

Since then, Picasso got deeper into wood and is now a true star.

So when I wanted a dinning table, I visited him at his carpentry shade, eisharamara' opposite Kebba Express Hotel, along Entebbe Road, and specified what I wanted.

I showed sample photos and described the feel and touch I wanted. I wanted a product that is truly wooden, made from our hardwood, mahogany, not these plywood type that are weightless.

And over the last three weeks, I have been checking on him daily to see progress, and finally, we have the product that is ready.

Hand skills do not lie. Vocational & technical skills do not lie. I will take home a product I like, and he will go home with good money from the works of his hands.
