Stop hitting routine outfield fungos that force kids to stand in lines for 15 minutes.
Set up a pitching machine in foul territory.
Set up 4 cones in the shape of a cross.
Set the machine to shoot pop flies into the middle of the cones.
The players will start at one cone and react to the hit.
Catch the ball, and then either put it into a bucket, throw it into a sock net (cut off man), or have an infielder set up as a cut off man and work it.
The player then moves on to the next cone.
The entire line goes and then they start on the next cone.
4 Cones will allow the players to catch fly balls in 4 different ways:
1) Coming forward
2) Moving to the left
3) Over the Head
4) Moving to the right
Set each rep to be a routine fly ball or a hard-to-get fly ball.
You can then add 4 more cones so the players can work going 45 degrees right/left and forward/backward
You can also work on ground balls.
Set the cones, set the machine, and make it game-like.
Bro was 30-34 and won a road game by two scores and look how pissed he is…
That’s my QB.
Glad you can tell he’s not happy about his teams performance in the 2nd half.
YOUR KID IS NOT A SHORTSTOP.
He’s a baseball player who happens to be playing shortstop today.
There’s a difference.
And somewhere along the way, we started screwing this up.
“He’s a shortstop.”
“He only plays center.”
“He’s a third baseman.”
He’s 13.
Relax.
Because eventually he walks onto a high school field and guess what?
There are five other kids who were “the shortstop” too.
One is faster.
One has a better arm.
One can flat out pick it.
Now Coach says:
“Can you play second?”
“Can you handle third?”
“Can you go get a ball in center?”
And the kid looks at him like he just asked him to play hockey.
That’s a problem.
Learn the whole damn field.
Take ground balls everywhere.
Learn first base footwork.
Learn how to turn two from both sides of the bag.
Go track some balls in the outfield.
Know the cuts.
Know the relays.
Know where everybody else is supposed to be.
Because the quickest way to shrink a player’s future…
IS TO MAKE ONE POSITION HIS ENTIRE IDENTITY.
Coaches don’t need nine kids protecting their favorite spot.
They need baseball players who can help them win.
And players, listen to me.
If somebody better takes your position, you’ve got two choices.
Sit there saying…
“But I’m a shortstop.”
Or grab another glove and make yourself impossible to keep out of the lineup.
POSITIONS ARE WHERE YOU STAND.
BALLPLAYER IS WHAT YOU ARE.

Analytics have ruined baseball. Baseball needs .300 hitters chasing .400. It needs line drives to the gaps, singles turned into doubles with speed. It doesn't need everybody swinging for the fences and striking out 200 times. Give me a team full of high OBP/high contact guys
"That is not how the lower half works in the throw." 🤔
Rocker Drills were 1 of 12 lower-body drills for pitchers, ranked from S-tier to F-tier in our most recent Around the Mound.

How do you maximize velocity from the stride phase?
When it comes to maximizing the back leg contribution to generating momentum toward the target, there are a few key variables:
-The magnitude of ground force
-The direction of ground force
-The total time (runway) you apply this ground force
-You can influence the magnitude of ground force by being larger (mass) or dropping more aggressively (acceleration) and having the strength and eccentric RFD to absorb and redirect this move.
-You can influence the direction of ground force by drifting before you drop, which orients the center of mass in front of the rubber, allowing the drop to direct your back leg ground force more horizontally (toward 2B), which actually sends you toward the target.
-You can influence the total time applying this ground force by riding out the hinge/linear move as long as your mobility/anatomy will allow. This doesn't mean to move slowly, but think of it as providing a longer runway to build momentum (like an airplane taking off).
Some outliers will just be super large, or have a super efficient drift, or have crazy hip mobility, and they can stay in their back leg for forever.
Some hard-throwing pitchers won't get much out of the linear move at all from a momentum standpoint, but they just use it to build tension and compensate by being insane rotators.
The Ozzie Drill is one of THE BEST infield drills in the world. But only if you do it correctly.
Many people go through it without fully understanding what it's training, which can lead to bad habits. That's exactly where it stops working.
Breaking down the right way to do it here.
Do me a favor:
Grab a bat. Relax your hands and arms.
Take an easy swing as if you’re hitting a ball.
Notice how gravity naturally helps slot and turn the barrel?
Maybe hitters don’t need to force the bat into position.
Maybe they need to relax and let it flow.

Like him or not, this is how you hit. This guy hit for average and power.
Teach this type of hitting again and the game will be better. It will be more exciting, it will be a much better offensive product.
Thank you Alex.
