Some thoughts from a recent @NewPhyt workshop: is there any connection between the late arrival of plants in terrestrial ecosystems and the high diversity of plant-fungal interactions?
https://t.co/dSWfoSI3iN
At day 2 of the @NewPhyt workshop in Angers, several cool talks on symbiotic regulation between land plants and different fungi. Impressive that mucoromycotina fine root endophyte seems to be different from AMF, according to @dromius
Intrigued that the diversity of interactions is so large and that plants arrive so late on the scene, according to Knoll perhaps even last. See also upcoming paper with @CStrulluDerrien
Day 2 of the @NewPhyt workshop in Angers is about to start.
Thanks to @CStrulluDerrien et al. for organizing a great meeting.
Some highlights from yesterday also include....
a thought-provoking presentation by Marc-Andrรฉ Selosse on the waiting room hypotheses for the path of evolution from saprobe to endophyte to mycorrhiza.
Great presentation by Andrew Knoll (remove) about early ecosystems...and that plants were late to arrive!
Next, Corentin Loron explains how FTIR and machine learning can be used to study molecular composition in the fossil record
Prototaxites as the example. Might not be a fungus.๐ฅบ
