“ When a Clown moves into the Palace, he doesn’t become a King, The Palace becomes a Circus” is a Turkish proverb which is worth heeding in the coming days.

@AndrewASink@cookiecad In my computational fabrication class, students build this 3D-to-2D slicer for laser-cutting (in Grasshopper) as one of their assignments. It shouldn't be too difficult to port to a web app 😉.
@joeltelling Hi Joel, I love your videos. We met briefly at the first @rmrrf ; I showed you some work my research lab (@utilitylabcu) is doing trying to develop more sustainable alternatives to thermoplastics in 3D printing (like using spent coffee grounds). [1/5]
@joeltelling@rmrrf@UtilityLabCU I have more info and links to references in our published work on the spent coffee grounds 3D printing. I'm also happy to chat more about this or the work my lab is doing for new materials (and also to support recycling of current materials). [4/5]
@joeltelling@rmrrf@UtilityLabCU In many ways 3D printing is better than traditional manufacturing approaches. And there's a lot of power in all of us having the ability to make (almost) anything we want. So it's important to be mindful of what we make/the materials we use. [3/5]
@joeltelling@rmrrf@UtilityLabCU There's a bunch of research on the environmental impacts of 3D printing (waste, energy, pollution). Most materials are not great. PLA, for example, is technically compostable, but it is pretty much always landfilled where it can take anywhere from 100-1000 years to degrade. [2/5]
If you’re interested in getting a PhD, this is a great chance to chat with the cool faculty at @cuatlas. And if you’re into digital fabrication, computational design and sustainability, I’ll be there recruiting the @UtilityLabCU 🖥️🔩
To prospective PhD students, there is a PhD information session hosted by CU Boulder ATLAS Institute on 10/29 (Tue) 8AM MT. In particular, if you're working on #Tangible, #AR, and #Robotics areas, please contact me too.

We found a way to generate manifold, polygonal meshes from feature vectors at points -- even if the vectors are random, you are still guaranteed to get a manifold mesh!
How? Halfedge meshes, permutations, spacetimes, and more! Check out the 🧵. This project was a blast!
