Hello! I’m hoping to connect with twitter-maths people! I’m moving in to secondary after many years in FE. Excited and nervous all at the same time, taking the PGCE route to help ease the transition. Would love to connect! #edutwitter#education#Maths#secondary#pgce
Don’t forget what they have done. Partygate, the Covid contracts, the lies, the kickbacks.
The cronyism, the failure to invest, the division and scapegoating, the trips to the bookies, the Liz Truss mini-budget, the decimation of your public services.
Don’t forget any of it. 🧾

Interested to hear of your experience with online tuition from home. I’ve been approached by a few people and I am keen to explore the possibility. Wondering what software people use and how they facilitate it… would appreciate your thoughts! Thank you 😊
Interesting discussion with another trainee today regarding bursaries in some subjects. I’m shocked so many PE trainees are taken on at university when there are so few jobs. One local school received over 70 applicants for 1 job. This doesn’t seem fair to me.
@neechmaths The pace of the entire day is faster. Quick turnover of lessons at varying gradations of ability and this is what I have had to get used to the most. The FE college I worked at previously had 2 x 3hour lessons per day, so very different. Are you considering it?
End of my first PGCE term and I’ve loved every minute. The school I was at was a great fit for me and I can really feel my progress. I was so worried about the transition from FE to secondary but that’s all in the past. Only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner!
All the best!🎄
@neechmaths Final thought, there really is something special working with younger students, building relationships and equipping them with the knowledge you know they will need. It’s magic.
@neechmaths I’m sure I will experience other noticeable differences as the year progresses. My next placement setting is very different to my first and so I am looking forward to that challenge.
@neechmaths Motivation and application is noticeable. Students in FE have had 2/3+ years of disappointment with their results and face up to that struggle each lesson, especially when it’s a topic that they find tough. However, in FE, we chose which topics to cover and to what depth of study
@neechmaths In secondary I am introducing each topic for the first time which gives me a chance to get a real grip on it, whilst at the same time I’m considering the errors/misconceptions that I’m experienced in through FE. This has helped me enormously in some lessons and will continue to.
