@SaladinoWR1D The Brewers were moved to the NL and put in the same division as the Cubs/Cards to help
ensure the franchise stayed in Milwaukee. When the move was done there was talk they’d have to move and the Cards/Cubs traveling fans ensured good houses when they played even in bad years
@tangotiger If you are truly an “average” defender and you are playing left field, you are likely better than anyone else at that position-given its place on the defensive spectrum.
@_joebiggins@BBGreatMoments Yep the Cubs would’ve liked it back but, overall, he’s overrated. Getting him 64 certainly won the Cardinals the World Series, though. Good average hitter, lots of SBs (and CS as well), OK power when he was young and bad defense.
@ShipMyMoneyDFS@JohnnieD49 So the most talented people in the world at baseball 25-30 years ago somehow wouldn’t be able to play now? Keep in mind if they were playing now they would’ve been born in 1995 or so and would’ve had the exact same training experience modern players have.
@BruceWolfChi Brickhouse and Caray were also quite fond of spending late nights in a bar tipping back a few, yet they somehow showed up to work. In the 70s I seldom missed a Cub game on TV and I never recall Jack missing a game.
@baseball_cards I’ve always been fascinated with the new stats since Bill James in the 80’s but I do believe the overemphasis on these has robbed the game of a bit of its soul, for lack of a better word.
@Jack41741033@javer31@uscfan981@braves2430 Bonds claimed he never knowingly took steroids. He was brought to trial on multiple charges and was initially convicted of obstruction of justice, which was then overturned. I personally believe he knowingly took steroids but it hasn’t been proven.
@CoachTimOlson1@Sundancekid1701@Coachhedge@shegone03 That’s true, certainly in the sports that reward pure athleticism but I’m skeptical athletes “evolve” over time-that doesn’t make any sense scientifically. Training, nutrition, etc. is what improves. It also helps that they can specialize in their sport year round now.
@javer31@uscfan981@braves2430 Bonds, Sosa and Clemens were never proven, either. Canseco said he personally injected Pudge with steroids-now Canseco is a skunk and his statement isn’t proof, either, but given how everything shook out after his book was published I tend to believe him.
@ChrisMartzWX Nice and cool in the northern Midwest though. That’s how weather works-if it’s abnormally hot somewhere it’s going to be abnormally cool somewhere else. If Europe has ten summers in a row like this then maybe something is up, otherwise it’s just system variability.
