Two big issues here @TTRadioOfficial@RogersHistory:
1. Funding: Technical qualifications tend to be more expensive for schools, requiring specialist equipment and spaces, as well as new hiring or re-training of current staff. Many schools budgets simply won't allow for the introduction of lots of these qualifications.
2. Impact on current subjects: This will almost certainly mean fewer pupils opting for humanities and arts subjects. What happens to the teachers of these subjects? What is the impact of this on colleges and universities with fewer students coming through in those subjects?
Lots more meat needs to go on those bones.
π¨ BREAKING: Big changes ahead for Key Stage 4 in England.
The government has announced new technical education pathways starting at age 14 (Year 10) from 2028. Pupils will be able to study subjects like AI, manufacturing, coding, and mechanics alongside core academic subjects with courses directly linked to local industries.
Teachers: Is introducing technical routes at age 14 the right move for schools, or will funding and staffing hold it back? π
