Mary Robinson reacts to the release of the draft text at #COP28:
“It is not good enough to say you recognise and respect the science but then fail to take heed of its dire warnings in the collective action you commit to.
It is not good enough to note with ‘alarm and serious concern’ the findings of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and the damage being caused by climate change but then fail to put in place the steps the science recommends.
It is not good enough to say you reaffirm the Paris Agreement but to then fail to commit to a full fossil fuel phase out.
It is not good enough to use weak language or to permit loopholes for the fossil fuel industry to continue to contribute to the very problem countries are meant to be committed to tackling here in Dubai.
Adequate time and opportunity still lie ahead, provided that nations promptly return to the negotiating table, equipped with the resolve required for a crisis of this magnitude and a readiness to undertake the necessary measures. This current version of the COP28 text is grossly insufficient.”

WOW! 🥳🎉 Fantastic news! This is the best $100k you ever spent, @TwilioDotOrg! @citizensclimate volunteers are so dedicated, and your support means we can do so much more!! 🙏🙇🏼♀️💋🌍
Let's hear it for our happy Tucson canvassers this morning! They did amazing work mobilizing low propensity environmental voters for the Aug. 1 mayoral election!
@SenFeinstein@AlexPadilla4CA Please cosponsor the PROVE IT Act. This is a critical first step for implementing a US carbon border adjustment mechanism. Let’s build momentum from last year’s IRA! #GrassrootsClimate
You get to know someone a bit on these social media sites. They connect with you, and you appreciate their spirit and in this case her bravery. Then you learn they’ve been murdered. Another tragic death in a tragic, pointless war. This time to someone you feel you know.
Our dearest friend and brilliant Ukrainian writer and human rights activist Victoria Amelina passed away.. killed by a Russian missile.. since RU invasion she has been documenting RU war crimes.. now killed by one of them.. devastating…..

Happy #EarthDay !
You can celebrate today by:
1. Enjoying nature!
2. Planting a tree!
3. Recycling your waste!
4. Fiercely dismantling the fossil fuel economy and the systems of oppression that got us here in the first place.
Cheers 🎉🌍🌎🌏
One finding of today's IPCC report: "private finance flows for fossil fuels are still greater than those for climate adaptation and mitigation."
If you're scared by today's report, join us tomorrow as we protest the banks that make global warming possible

Supposedly the White House is close to approving a vast new oil complex--the #WillowProject --in Alaska.
One hopes that they'll rethink: it's a world-class carbon bomb, and base voters young and old just hate it.
Jimmy Carter helped preserve Alaska--over to you, Joe Biden
So how do we build momentum for the #biodiversity targets of COP 15? How do we build support for a path similar to the COP-to-IRA path for climate change? Who are the env orgs, NGOs and public figures most effective in this space? Time for organizing & action! @ProfBillMcGuire

When thinking about water, the first thing that @patienceNabz thinks about is the same thing we all should be thinking about, and investing in #wetlands
Water-related consequences of climate change can have a huge impact on the human rights of certain communities — @patienceNabz tells us more at #COP27 ⤵️
Holy moly. At this very moment, there are 84 amazing @Enviro_Voter volunteers calling low propensity environmental voters across 3 different phonebanks in Arizona, Colorado, and Texas.
