@DavidDack B2B debuted '76 by Cpt. John Butterfield to coincide with Armed Forces Day. It was a 6 person relay. It started allowing single runners in 2016. I did not run leg 5, it was 6. Youtube has great videos of the event. I like the JFK Causeway leg but I trained for the grueling end.
@DavidDack I used to do the Beach to Bay Marathon Relay every year in Corpus Christi. I always did leg 5, or the last. By that time humidity was high & the 10 am sun blaring off the bay. We welcomed the people cheering us on with water hoses from their front yards. What a blessing!
@DavidDack R&R held their SA event in December because how hot Texas normally is. Signed up as usual. It was Nov & still training but had to be in Indiana when family member died. With snow to my hips, I still did my training. The looks people gave me...
@DavidDack San Antonio, dreaded hils go through Trinity University many runners love or hate.
I love it. It is the ultimate opportunity to apply a technique I learned as a cross country runner in high school.
Lowering my center of gravity.
It's like the little train that could.
@DavidDack Proper care, training, & knowing the best nutrients like Salmon, mackerel, sardines, walnuts, and flaxseeds will keep the knees in excellent shape. In my 66 years, I've never had an issue. On average, I've easily put 58K to 75K miles on my knees.
@RobertaFresque2 Though not unusual yet not every where, as I travel through Texas, there are some "questionable" flavors.
When in Buc-ee's, take a look as some do carry them.
And yes, carrier is provided when buying more than 1.
@MarindaVannoy1 I believe we should be able to bring forth a class action suit of some kind. We need a legal team not afraid to defend us. Financial abuse effects us all in some manner. Elderly, veteran, low income, families, small business, so many of us affected robbing us.
@DavidDack A run/walk benefiting the Lupus Foundation, I had health problems but I still remained active at 47. A lot of younger runners were there wearing the best stuff. I no longer ran for time. Several hundred showed up & at some point I was in 1st place. Why? They took the wrong turn.
@DavidDack That was in 1988 when I was working for Coca-Cola. My receptionist signed up the sales department. It was advertised as a fundraising walk March of Dimes held every year. After the event, the San Antonio Roadrunners running club tried to recruit me.
@DavidDack 1 time there was a traffic jam in a busy school zone, traffic not moving. There was a stranded car, many honking horns. I stopped running, talked to the driver, flagged down 2 helpers & we pushed the stalled car into a nearby safe spot.
I often pickup discarded plastics.
@DavidDack HS, 1978. I mentioned in another post, I was a consistent 4:26 miler, one time 4:24. The state record 4:04.20, Rudy Chapa, Hammond IN, 1975-76, in our district & before my time. I ran against a county record holder of 4:19 but never caught him.
I'm still proud of my time.
@LeahRay44 I used to travel a lot across 40 states but I don't like to. Like sleeping more than 3 hours, I consider them a waste of time. I dislike vacations & avoid them. I've been to border towns of Mexico but don't desire to go anywhere else.
@DavidDack It was more like 67 miles round trip. When the owner of the business found out, he loaned me money for a car with small payroll deductions. But, all those long daily runs got me hooked.
@DavidDack With a spouse & child to feed at 21, 1980-82 economy, I was laid off from the mills & jobs hard to find, homeless for 3 months, living in my car, I grabbed the 1st job available, 33 miles 1 way. 1 day the car would no longer work, 5 days a week I ran/jogged both ways for 6 weeks.
