@JJ_McCullough I think all that, combined w/ the 3 way race can explain him losing 16% of the vote that prior Dem mayors had received. Still an underperformance, but he was widely perceived as an outsider/untraditional and had to worked against some tall odds in an abnormal race. My thoughts :)

@JJ_McCullough Cuomo had a fair amount of institutional support, and others at least insinuated skepticism of ZM. ZM was a insurgent outsider - first socialist, Muslim party candidate for a major city. Cuomo and conservative media attacked him a lot. It scared some "normie" Dems off ZM.
