Husband, dad, geek, perpetually curious, striving for humility.
@MathsNot Is this really such a mystery. I thought they standardise per subject for grade 9, 7 and 4 and then the inbetween grades are split into equal sized widths. Then it would simply depend if the students raw scores are equally distributed. If not then you might get dips as seen above
My papers are likely to be incredibly late due a battle with @TeamYouTube who are demonetising my videos saying they are aimed at kids below age 12. I'd really appreciate if you can tag @TeamYouTube and retweet this. It's literally crippling my income at a key time of year.
@greg_ashman I can see the logic in your argument & it feels intuitively correct to me. However, I wonder, how much do different people's brains distinguish between these types of trauma? If they do, is it linear or logarithmic? Is seeing a horrific thing happen to 50 people x10 worse than 5?
@adamboxer1 Other than profits... They often reorder rebrand & recycle previous content & charge a premium for error strewn content. eg Oxford IB AA Higher Level textbook is so full of known errors & yet I still paid (presuming the errors would have been corrected & reprinted) £60+ per book!
@Jawgenius@drum980@DanielKebedeNEU@ToeKneesTweets@suttontrust You are right. Many means a large countable number. But large is relative. For polygons, the poly means 3 or more (a triangle being the base polygon). For functions, a many-to-one mapping means means 2 or more elements of the domain map to an element of the range.
@drum980@DanielKebedeNEU@ToeKneesTweets@suttontrust What is your definition of "many"? He didn't say a majority. As a maths teacher many usually means more than one. Anything with poly as a prefix (poly is Greek for many) means more than 1. But we are getting off the point. Do you have other objections other than his use of many?
📢 Ok, get this...at @SparxMaths we've created the most AWESOME GCSE Crossover Workbooks (1 per strand) to support revision for those Qs that appear on both Foundation and Higher tiers. All you've got to do is like and retweet this and I'll send you your FREE copy next week 📢
I have recently written a new curriculum for 5-18 mathematics.
I think the approach to curriculum design is unlike anything that currently exists. I also think it is precisely what we need.
I will publish a full discourse shortly. But first, I would like to stress test my thinking.
At 7pm on Thursday, I will present my ideas in a live webinar.
I would like to invite all those interested in mathematics curriculum design to join me, hear me out, and share your thoughts.
If you would like to attend, please send me a DM with your email and I will add you to the invitation list, with a link to the webinar.
Being able to articulate the thinking behind the curriculum and receive feedback and criticism from expert mathematics educators and mathematicians will be enormously helpful.
Hope to see you there.
2mins of Hashi Mohamed absolutely smashing the Conservatives Rwanda policy to bits.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
‘Our learned judges said the Home Office hadn’t even assessed that policy before adopting it
It’s unviable, it’s expensive & the only people it’s going to work for is the Rwandans’ #BBCQT
My definition of a great teacher? Stop this endless expectation of ‘better’. A great teacher works well enough to ensure each lesson & class they teach over time learns well. That each individual they teach feels valued. That each colleague they have is glad they work with them.
