Kids have to learn to dig deep, struggle & fight their way out of adversity. You can put them on every kind of competitive team, get them a trainer/the best equipment/extra practice, but if they can’t claw their way past troubles that WILL come, they’ll never develop as athletes!
Becoming a successful athlete doesn’t guarantee happiness. There are many successful athletes who struggle with mental health. This is why it’s important to proactively take care of your mental health and look for happiness in areas besides athletic success.
KELVIN SAMPSON ON BAD SHOOTERS
“A lot of times people lie to a kid: 'You're a good shooter. Keep shooting.'
'No, you're not. Don't.'
'Well, you're hurting his confidence.'
"I don't want to build a bad shooter's confidence up."

What separates us from our goals is usually looking back at us in the mirror. 💯
The thoughts we allow into our minds are so important. They can change the way we feel about ourselves, others and our lives. Pay attention to what you’re thinking about!
Life is like a sport. Also, life is hard. I am working on the mindset of "do hard better." This means manage it better and view it better. We cannot escape pressure or hard tasks. We can manage it and view it differently though.
Think about your life. Do you give yourself a chance for your greatest potential to shine through? Or is the battle lost before it's even fought? Instead of letting negative what-ifs paralyze you, choose to allow positive what-ifs to give you hope for the future!
The key to relieving stress is to focus on what you can control in the present moment. Once you become more mindful of the present moment and stop worrying about things you can't control, your mental health will start to improve.

As an athlete, you’re remembered most by your biggest achievements, not your failures. Let this give you the courage to take risks and the resilience to bounce back from adversity.
Wherever God has put you, there is something for you to do. God wants to use you where you’re at with what you have, not just in the future when you get to where you think you want to go, but now. You don’t have to wait until you feel equipped to live a life that counts!
Three simple steps to improving your self-talk:
1. Identify a negative thought.
2. Challenge its validity.
3. Find a more positive and realistic thought to replace it.
Improving your self-talk can greatly help your athletic performance and mental health.
Being a brave athlete doesn’t mean you have no fear in games. It means you have the courage to face your fears, trust yourself, and take action despite feeling nervous.
