Many Smith families were affected by the apartment fires in Frisco. Immediate needs have been met. Needed items to help them get back on feet: mattresses, bedding, blankets, pillows, pots/pans, personal care items, phone chargers, detergent, etc. #SmithStrong
Teachers, do you need some simple strategies to support your ELs during your video lessons? Step into their shoes for a moment and try to follow these directions in Serbian! Thank you so much @ValentinaESL ♥️

@smithelem_Noel @LHollowayFISD Our amazing first graders had their writing celebration today!!!! We would make Lucy so proud! Way to go first grade authors and their amazing teachers.
@JillZavala8@smithelem_Noel I agree! Smith teachers are the best and if anyone can they can. With collab and support plan b could benefit every classroom and every child. #smithlearns
@smithelem_Noel The staff used empathy steps to finally address Joeys needs and it provided all parties with a compromise. The teacher did this by seeking clarity to understand Joey. #smithlearns
@smithelem_Noel Plan b benefits the teacher and student by allowing collaboration to solve lagging skills. I used plan b but not consistently and know if I had spent the time (which is always a teachers obstacle) it would of been effective. #smithlearns
@smithelem_Noel Plan a leads to a power struggle when students have challenging behaviors. Communicating the expectation and tools to meet it allow the student to learn the skills and achieve the tasks. #smithlearns
@smithelem_Noel Alsups will help us identify lagging skills students have and the strategies we can support them to work on. Unsolved problems cause challenging behaviors for our students because of their lagging skills. #smithlearns
@smithelem_Noel The use of this list is so helpful for educators. So many issues for our students are social and emotional and I have seen that pour over to their academics. I want to always use this list when we have students to consider for name and need and sst.
@rachel_fomby@smithelem_Noel I totally agree! There are skills they lag in and skills they excel in and a diagnosis does not identify that for our learners. Each kid is different even if they have the same diagnosis. #smithlearns
@smithelem_Noel Green’s view that ‘kids want to do well’ really promotes using plan B as our teaching model. Building that partnership and teaching the skills needed to succeed is imperative to supporting our learners. #smithlearns
@smithelem_Noel ‘plan A’ is counterproductive because there is no partnership and it leads to power struggles. It serves ‘ordinary’ students on the surface but does not teach students skills or help solve problems. Imposing solutions on behavior challanged kiddos will cause crisis. #smithlearns
@smithelem_Noel Dr. Green states that the main problem is that expectations are placed on kids that exceeds the skills students have to respond adaptively and kids with behavior problems communicate their lack of skills in an extreme way. #smithlearns
@smithelem_Noel Joeys situation was heartbreaking! I feel like everyone suffered and Joey suffered the most. Staff could have handled it differently if they were trained to move from conventional school discipline and started focusing on the problems that cause the behaviors. #smithlearns
