@heymrsbond Have you read Peter Reynolds’ book, The Word Collector? I read it on the first day to my creative writing class and had students share/collect words to add to a word wall and to try out in their writing. I love language too. Picking the just right words is an art. Language ARTS.

Started out updating my 2024 and 2025 budget spreadsheets so I can finally shred some bills, which led to organizing my Google Drive, and ended up finding this poem I wrote in 2019. In the future, I'm adding a context for my poems for my own knowledge.

What I imagined discussing at teacher conferences: “Your child is accomplished at reading comprehension and writing organization, but let’s work to develop using textual evidence to support claims.”

Reality: “I don’t know what your child needs help with due to missing work.”

@MarcusLuther6 The favorite is a blend of block and year round classes. Art classes and other electives thrive on 90 minutes, but state tested classes like ELA 10 work well year round, especially with freshmen/sophomores.

@heymrsbond As much as I wish it was the job of the counselors to have these conversations, it really is our job as instructors. And it is HARD. No matter how much I advise students to wait to take the class until later in their high school career, I still get students who aren’t ready.

If you’re a teacher or know one who has “gamified” the classroom, could you share your experience? Early stages of my thinking envisions Ss being sorted like in Harry Potter, then earning/losing points for things like on-time work completion. Does it improve engagement/learning?

@Joseph_Fasano_ It reminds me of my belief that poems are gifts to be shared- other people’s poems and our own. My family “duty” now is to share a poem I’ve written at each family member’s funeral, honoring their life. It’s my favorite gift to give.

@heymrsbond I had music playing during homeroom this week and a student said, “This is that divorced dad music.” I was listening to my favorites playlist on iHeart and Nickelback was playing.

You know what’s cool about nursing bras? They sew the pads in so nursing mothers don’t lose their shit. At least about rearranging the pads. They still lose their shit, but about more important things. Cancel removable pads for all bras!
