Booksnap 5! This time I have a question: when do we start teaching basic language skills such as prefix/suffix meaning, morphemes etc.? When SHOULD we be starting? #KSUECE4410
@CeciliaPerezKSU I totally agree! Kids are very capable of understanding difficult subjects and I think we often underestimate them. In lots of ways, their unique perspective goes deeper than our own opinions as well, so I think it’s important to talk about!
@StacyTennis I would absolutely use this in my classroom. I’ve seen some harder topics discussed in classes but kind of glazed over (like slavery on MLK day), and I think they could be covered better because of this fact.
@StacyTennis Most of the time a good majority of them clap. There have been times when only a few have clapped and she will repeat directions. I personally think the clapping is great for giving directions but something like a thumbs up might be better for understanding of content.
@_mariabarnett That sounds like such a fun project! It’s so important that we give our students opportunities to learn and extend that learning in new and fun ways.
@kgormanedu My CT and I were just talking about this! She does a lot of prep work for the kids so that when they get to third grade in a few months this is less likely to happen. We should never assume that everyone “knows”. Always ask or review!
BookSnap week 2! We should ALWAYS allow our students to talk about learning in our classrooms. This helps them to reach a higher Bloom's level, therefore expanding their brains and giving them a better learning experience! #KSUECE4410
@kara_remington I had never thought about that fact before reading the articles. It’s not fair for us to expect students to jump from one text to another with no experience! How can we better incorporate informational texts into our k-3 classrooms?
I love using BrainPop Jr. with my students to introduce new concepts in a fun and exciting way! It’s great to see them be able to independently interact with the games and quizzes provided by BrainPop and take hold of their own learning. #ksuitec3100
DimensionU is a great classroom tool for testing your students knowledge! This tech provides educational games that you can compete against your friends with! What a cool way to keep on your toes in the classroom. #ksuitec3100
