Hi Tosin. Which of these fees are you concerned about?
Every investor pays every single one of those fees as long as you trade in Nigeria, irrespective of broker.
The brokerage fee is within what is allowed by regulation.
The buffer amount is not a fee. It is your money.
A company does not win because it is “hardworking.”
It wins because it makes disciplined choices.
It chooses the right markets.
It chooses the right customers.
It chooses the right products.
It chooses the right price points.
It chooses the right channels.
It chooses the right operating model.
It chooses what not to do.
A company cannot serve everyone.
It cannot be everywhere.
It cannot sell everything.
It cannot compete on price, quality, speed, convenience, innovation, distribution, and premium branding all at once.
At least, not sustainably.
So the first work of strategy is to force clarity.
Where exactly are we playing?
Then the second work is to force advantage.
How exactly are we going to win?
For example, a bank can say:
“We want to grow retail banking.”
That is not strategy.
A sharper strategy would be:
“We want to grow with salary earners in urban Nigeria, especially young professionals earning between ₦300,000 and ₦2 million monthly, by offering automated savings, salary-backed lending, and wealth products through a mobile-first experience.”
Now we know the market.
We know the customer.
We know the product set.
We know the channel.
We know the basis of competition.
@FirstRegistrars First Registrars, where’s my Stanbic dividends? I’ve called, sent emails, gone through the right channels yet I’ve gotten absolutely nothing from you.
Are you trying to steal from me? Why am I not getting any responses to my emails? Why am I always having to follow up?
Some of us might have started our stock investing journey for the first time in January 2026 because the gains in prior months were really enticing.
The last five months have been fantastic as well, until this month that everything has been blurry.
My gist this morning is that you should calm down. Do not panic about anything. You most likely have not made a mistake.
To help you understand how things work in the equities market, I have shown you a list of some companies (solid coys, by the way) and their closing stock prices every year since 2018. I used 2018 as my base year because:
✑ The trend is sufficient to incorporate different economic cycles
✑ It was the year that foreign investors started to leave Nigeria.
Hence, I am showing you the performance of these stocks even in the worst market periods.
The least performer there is Nestlé, which has done 2x or 10% per year since 2018. You can see the range of returns across the listed names and across their respective sectors.
On average, the combined listed stocks did +36% price gain every year. And this excludes dividends.
So what is my point?
Do not panic. Do not fret. The red and blurry scenes are part of it, as long as you are invested in very good, solid, and sound companies.
You’d be fine. So open that @cowrywise app and keep buying more.
If I were to advise someone who is considering buying stocks in the market right now, my recommended allocation would be:
MTN Nigeria: 30%
Seplat Energy: 25%
Custodian Investment: 20%
Wema Bank: 15%
The Initiates: 10%
The thinking is simple.
We want the bulk of the money in companies that are already proven. Coys with scale. Coys with cash flow. Coys that can survive difficult cycles and still keep producing earnings.
Then we want a smaller part of the portfolio in names that can grow faster, but where we must also respect the risks.
@FirstRegistrars Hello FirstRegistrars,
What’s the process to request for unpaid dividends? My Stanbic dividends should have been paid on the 26th of May, but nothing has come in yet
Hello everyone
Today, I am out to appeal for the support of a friend. Her mother and brother were kidnapped in Ijebu Ode.
We don’t want to take any chances, so we are working to raise the ransom. Please help in any way:

Everyone assumes it’s just about money. I've seen people turn down higher offers to stay in a company that treated them right. And I've seen people leave well-paying jobs because of bad culture.
No growth path. No psychological safety. No investment in their development and these barely even scratch the surface. People can feel the difference between being used and being developed. We need accountability please.

Something like this happened to my cousin she got married to the man she had been with for almost 7 years.
Everybody admired their relationship... They looked solid, happy, and ready for forever... The wedding was beautiful. Families came together, prayers were said, pictures were taken, and she genuinely believed she was entering her peaceful season, as for the struggles and everything they went through together while dating!
For the first 6 months of marriage, everything looked normal from the outside. Then one random evening, a woman posted a newborn baby online and tagged her husband.
At first, my cousin thought it was maybe a mistake or some weird rumor. Until dates started adding up. The child was conceived before the wedding. Meaning while they were planning venues, sending invitations, taking pre-wedding photos, and standing before God promising forever… he already had another woman pregnant.
He allowed her walk into marriage without giving her the choice to decide if she still wanted that future. He robbed her of informed consent. That’s what broke her completely.
The families tried to settle it quietly. Some told her to endure. Some said ‘men make mistakes.’ Some said ‘at least it happened after the wedding.’
But she said something while at it and I’ll never forget:
‘A marriage built on hidden betrayal is not peace. It is emotional imprisonment.’
She filed for divorce later on not because she hated him, but because she could never trust the foundation again.
And honestly, that situation taught me something:
Cheating is painful. But lying long enough to make someone legally tie their life to you while hiding life-changing secrets is a different level of selfishness.
