@jonnybid@OpenUni_RfP We do independent reading every day when we come into school for 15-20 minutes. The children enjoy it and sets the calm for the rest of the day. We then do story time straight after lunch to calm down and refocus from running around.

Every month this year, I intend to give away a full class set of one book via @ANewChapterBks - I truly believe a full class set is one of the most valuable resources a teacher can have when teaching reading.

@reads_and_draws @jonnybid@MissStanleyYr6@primaryteachew@Suchmo83@MrBoothY6 Thank you for this, I have got a focus for each session planned out, just struggling to find quality research and resources to fit what I want to deliver. Reading is our priority this year. I will take a look at your suggestions.
I am looking for some help/ advice. I have been asked to deliver this terms staff meetings on reading with a different focus each week. Can anyone point in the right direction for good resources I can use. Many thanks @jonnybid@MissStanleyYr6@primaryteachew
@MissStanleyYr6 Was looking good until I asked them to write a descriptive setting - disaster. Forgotten capital letters, good vocabulary, sentence starters. Any advice to keep them motivated??
@AnnaTomasik_22@PieCorbett @TTRadio2022 @sharing_support@Headteacherchat@Thinkingschool2 Thoroughly enjoy my job, my school and colleagues are great. After experiencing a toxic school and nearly giving up- I can honestly say I found my love of teaching again. My class are brilliant and never cease to amaze me.
@MissStanleyYr6 Yes, I had half my current year's 6s last year as year 5s and the difference between them and the other year 6s is interesting! Let the work commence.
@thatteacherguy_ I got told the same thing at the leavers service as I stood up and spoke about some of thr children who received awards. Didn't even cry at my own daughters leavers assembly. Real heart of stone ๐
