@RAPAP2021 This was the price in August 2024! (I looked back my delivery slips). 44% price rise in a year! It should not cost over £10 to make a basic spaghetti bolognaise for a family!
@EmathsUK When my pupils came out of their maths exam smiling and told me it was boring, I knew they had done well. Their skills were so embedded that they could tackle it without much stress and excitement. A bit like the difference between driving lessons and driving towork every morning
@Henry_Hepburn@EISUnion@Emma_Seith@TesScotland It’s not only the inflation that is impacting my cost of living, it is having to pay 40% tax at £43k. Higher tax should be for people who are comfortable enough to afford it and that is not classroom teachers with young families!
One in 5 pupils say their lessons are disrupted every day by a classmate using a phone, with 1 in 8 saying their schools never confiscate phones even when rules forbidding them are ignored - according to a new survey by a parents' charity.
@LiamKenny_ reports.
In 2021, the Scottish Government committed to recruiting 3,500 additional teachers. There has been no progress made on the recruitment of additional teachers, in fact, teacher numbers have fallen for three years in a row and by 600 last year in Primary schools, while the workload of those in the system remains unsustainable.
There are 9 days left for COSLA and the Scottish Government to meaningfully and collegiately commit to addressing workload.
30 * N5 apps exams = 7.5 hours
15 * Higher applications exams = 5 hours
30 * N5 maths homework = 3 hours
20 * S2 homework = 1 hour
16.5 hours of marking this coming week.
Add in a parent’s night to wipe out a night!
I have the Sunday fear!
Reason #1 ppl often don't 'get' why full day, full-timetable teaching is so tough: The pace.
It's unrelenting. It's not 'Oh, I'll pop to the loo', 'I'll day dream, just for a minute', 'I'll just switch off for the next hour and no one will know' - they will know, you will get found out! It's intense - You must be 'on' ALL the time. That's why it's so hard to sustain, esp in the toughest contexts, because humans need a head rest.
That's why extra PPA is just so, so vital and thee biggest thing that would change so many teacher lives.
We tell pupils to study, but have we actually taught them how to study??
Today I finished off my ‘How to study: a simple guide on how to study smarter not harder’ PowerPoint. Hopefully will help senior pupils learn how to study effectively ✨
Pupils living in poverty in Scotland are three and a half times more likely to be excluded than pupils living in the least deprived areas. Teachers say: Give us more specialist staff to close the gap! Value Teachers Voices! #WorldTeachersDay#SU4QE#GoPublic#FundEducation
This World Teachers’ Day, we call on @scotgov to take action. On average, teachers are working an extra 11 hours per week, negatively impacting their wellbeing as well as recruitment & retention. It’s time to invest in Education. #WorldTeachersDay#SU4QE#GoPublic#FundEducation
