Sam Neill starred in so many beloved Australian stories and he earned a special place in Australian hearts.

Wry and dry, thoughtful and laconic, Sam fought illness with the same dignity, humour and conviction that gave strength to his every performance.

THE BAYEUX TAPESTRY HAS RETURNED TO ENGLAND AFTER NEARLY 1,000 YEARS 🏰

A truck carrying the 70-meter-long (230-foot) embroidery arrived at the British Museum at 2:48 a.m. on July 10, following an overnight journey from an undisclosed location in France through the Channel Tunnel.

The transfer was kept confidential for security reasons. Escorted by French and British police, the tapestry travelled in a climate-controlled, custom-built transport system designed to protect it from changes in temperature, humidity and vibration.

Believed to have been made in England during the 1070s, the embroidery has spent most of the last millennium in Bayeux, Normandy. It depicts the events leading to the Norman conquest of England and the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

The loan was agreed during French President Emmanuel Macron’s UK state visit in 2025. In return, the British Museum will lend Sutton Hoo treasures, the Lewis Chessmen and other objects to museums in Normandy.

The work is covered by up to £800 million in UK government indemnity. The initial ticket release for September to December has sold out. The exhibition opens on September 10, 2026 and runs until July 11, 2027.
