After reading Shin Chi’s Canoe, we honoured children who attended residential schools by painting rocks orange & adding Every Child Matters. We hope that every time someone sees our beautiful rocks that they will remember the survivors & the children who never made it home.
So today, on Orange Shirt Day, remember those children who had to endure these horrible institutions, but also realize the impacts did not end with the last school closing in 1996. This is why we we continue to raise awareness and will NEVER forget. /end 🧡 #EveryChildMatters
Grade 3/4 students have been exploring two elements of design, line and contrast. Our pumpkins are turning out amazing! We can’t wait to put them up in the hall to show them off to the rest of the school! 🎃🍂
Orange Shirt Day should not be a called or turned into a “celebration”. It is our Remembrance Day. We honour and observe. This day represents many lost children and widespread intergenerational trauma. Its a time to learn and reflect. #EveryChildMatters
This week our class has been reading this beautiful book. Our learning goals are posted in the class. We are learning what life was like for Indigenous children before attending residential schools & residential schools in Canada and how we can move forward in reconciliation.
Residential Schools were created by the Canadian government to intentionally remove Indigenous people, their cultures and their traditions from Canada, forcing them to assimilate into a Euro-Canadian way of life. 1/3
Today Grade 3/4s experimented with materials to increase and decrease the friction of a pattern block on a ramp! Students used various materials including sandpaper, socks, plastic, velcro, and anything else they could find. #sciencerules
We wish all Indigenous staff, students, & families a safe and enjoyable National Indigenous Peoples Day! June 21st corresponds to the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Many Indigenous Nations celebrate their cultures at this time of year, a tradition for centuries.
June 6, 2022, is the one-year anniversary when our community lost several members of “Our London Family.” It caused lasting harm to our Muslim community, to the family’s friends and loved ones, and to our city and nation as a whole. The Afzaal’s will forever be #OurLondonFamily.
Science experiment day! Virtual Grade 6’s completed their choice of experiment to learn the properties of air. I demonstrated an experiment to show that air has mass! Both balloons were full and balanced but after removing the air from one, it was no longer balanced!
