@LDS_Dems This makes me sad, too. I’ve met him several times and I adore his work. He also used to talk about how ostracized he felt as a Mormon Democrat. This transformation is really odd and bizarre.
Utah once had better senators.
Utah Senator Arthur Watkins chaired the 1954 special committee to investigate misconduct by McCarthy. Watkins ran the hearings well, and the committee unanimously recommended McCarthy be censured, leading to the full Senate vote against McCarthy.
XC athletes: your role this summer is consistency, progression, buying into the team and its culture.
Here are a few things you should make happen:
• If you’re in town and not working, be at practice. • Follow the training plan including OYO days and while on vacation. • If you’re serious about your season, summer is not the time for late bedtimes. Go to sleep at a consistent time, sleep 8–10 hours per night, and nap when you have the opportunity. • Don’t fall victim to the convenience of fast food. Learn how to make meals. • Hydrate daily. • Get your ferritin levels checked. • Earlier is almost always better than later when it comes to starting your run.
• Motivation comes from momentum so you have to start first
When October and November arrive, you’ll either be glad you did the work or wish you had. Becoming a better distance runner isn’t complicated, and it’s not always difficult. The secret is regularly doing the simple and boring things, especially when you’d rather do something else. Doing what you need to do before doing what you want to do, that’s not just distance running, that’s a life skill.
XC parents: your role this summer is simple but important.
Help make sure your athlete gets to practice, completes their on-your-own runs, and that running remains a priority even during vacations. Let’s be honest: most runs take less than an hour and can usually be done before the rest of the family is even ready for the day.
If you’re vacationing somewhere that isn’t safe to run outside… where exactly are you vacationing? 😄
Beyond running, parents can make a huge difference by helping athletes: • train in relatively new running shoes • eat mostly home-cooked meals and have a good stock of snacks • maintain a normal sleep schedule • actually hear that alarm in the morning
Summer isn’t a break from responsibilities. In many ways, teenagers need more structure and support during the summer than they do during the school year.
A successful fall season is built during the summer.
Trump will turn 80 next month. It will be a historic moment.
It will be the first time in American history that a president’s age is higher than his IQ.
I am rapidly coming to believe the European soccer transfer model should be adapted for NCAA D1 hoops. Mid- and low majors have to get some kind of compensation when they lose half of their teams to the portal in two weeks:
@JesseFrisinger Go to a track meet instead and watch guys lay it all out on the track for the 4x400 while their teammates lose their minds on the infield, and watch big guys launch 12lb shots 50+ feet
Depends on what they actually run during indoor and outdoor. The specificity of training can be quite different for 10K Cross-Country versus 5K on the track if they specialize. Some who run cross in the fall are mid-distance specialists on the track.
Is a 5K runner who runs cross country, indoor track & field, & outdoor track & field (Three-Sport Athlete!) more diversified than a team sport athlete who plays a single sport requiring a myriad of different athletic qualities?
A meta-analysis of elite Olympic athletes (top 16 in the world) found they:
• Started their sport at 10 years old
• Focused on their sport at 15
• Skiing, soccer, basketball, and hockey players sampled other sports for 7 years
The authors concluded: “Only after the age of 12 should the volumes of deliberate practice increase so that an athlete can specialise in one sport.”
#HotTake🔥 But a joke, it wouldn’t be right to the competitors
I think there should be a speed skating race on the “big track” like snowboard/cross. Skate the 5000m with heats of 6…..GO!
It’d be bad for the skaters, I am sorry. But it’s be a blast for spectators 🤣🤣
People are worried about how American athletes are representing America.
Meanwhile Trump:
Posts racist videos
Calls female journalists piggy
Tells women to “smile” when discussing pedophilia
Has ICE killing people & getting away with it
The athletes are not the problem.
