Unlike previous Fire Prevention Weeks, we are unable to visit @SHA_NL for presentations. Thank you to all the teachers & students for continuing to promote fire safety at school & home with @nfpa resources!
Pictured here is TJ, son of Fire Prevention Chairperson Jordan Hannam.
M5:(2/2)w/o their input. It is impt to ensure every decision is made in the best interest of the individual & with as much input from them as possible! After all,we want what is best for them and to allow individuals with ID’s to have as much independence as possible #ed3610fall18
M5:(½)In some cases, guardianship is abused for persons with ID’s. Guardians may think they have the authority to take complete control over the lives of persons with IDs & make impt decisions for them(such as in the court cases we read about forced sterilization), #ed3610fall18
Changing the smoke alarm batteries to coincide with the end of Daylight Savings Time tomorrow morning. Don’t forget to change yours so your family will be alerted in the event of a fire, before it’s too late!
M4: (2/2) Knowing the background of intellectual disabilities can help us do this. It will help us to better know and understand our students and help us to provide the necessary supports to ensure success. #ed3610fall2018
M4: (1/2) It is essential for Special Education/Instructional Resource Teachers to be informed about the characteristics of students with CID’s. As educators, we need to ensure our students have all the resources necessary to become successful. #ed3610fall18
M3 (2/2): It may make them feel lesser & unimportant - as if their genetic condition is seen as something bad & ‘not worth living’ for. How would you feel if someone insulted you for something that you had no control over? #ed3610fall18
M3 (½): Although the decision is not an easy one to make, the choice to terminate a fetus with a known genetic condition can be insulting to some individuals with the same genetic condition. #ed3610fall18
Volunteering at #NLAFS2018 and chatting with the @ASNLEASTERN about autism. Did you know that NL has the highest rate of autism in Canada? I was surprised to know 1 in 57 Newfoundlander’s are diagnosed! #ED3610fall18
@jenna_lovell And it's so important as educators to understand this so they can focus on the strengths and needs of students to help them succeed! #ed3610fall2018
We've noticed this great #ED3610fall18 going around giving shout outs to disability organizations and our work! What's this all about? Thanks for the kudos for all the work happening in the disability community! @NLACL@AutismSocietyNL @CACL_ACIC @inclusionNL@PeopleFirstCA
M2 (2/2): Perhaps we need to look at developing a variety of tests to accommodate many different needs! After all, the student comes first & we need to put their needs ahead of everything else. #ed3610fall18
M2 (1/2): How can one single IQ test regulate access to educational programming? No two people are the same, so why should we use one test to regulate .. this doesn’t account for the many levels of intelligence. #ed3610fall18
