10) Martin Puryear
A sculptor who works within the traditions of craft, but challenges materials to create unique, evocative sculptures.

[Tim Bogatz @TimBogatz]

9) Carrie Mae Weems
Full stop one of the most incredible photographers in art history.

[Tim Bogatz @TimBogatz]

8) Kara Walker
Room-size black paper silhouettes that explore issues of race, identity, violence, sexuality, and gender. Maybe the most powerful work being made today.

[Tim Bogatz @TimBogatz]

7) Sam Gilliam
Pushes the envelope with painting and fibers. He creates gorgeous tapestries that blur the line between 2D & 3D work.

[Tim Bogatz @TimBogatz]

6) Rashid Johnson
2D, 3D, Installation, Video, and more, dealing with racial and cultural identity and contemporary issues.

[Tim Bogatz @TimBogatz]

5) Nick Cave
New York Times called him the 'most joyful artist in America'. His soundsuits are probably the coolest things I've ever seen.

[Tim Bogatz @TimBogatz]

4) Betye Saar
Assemblage, a little printmaking, and a lot of storytelling. Highlights politics and directly fights racism.

[Tim Bogatz @TimBogatz]

3) Julie Mehretu
Layered, expressive, and beautiful large-scale paintings of abstracted landscapes.

[Tim Bogatz @TimBogatz]

2) Mickalene Thomas
Huge portraits created with acrylic, enamel, and her signature rhinestones, usually with an eye toward art history. My hometown @joslynartmuseum recently acquired this painting, and it's my daughter's favorite thing in the entire museum.

[Tim Bogatz @TimBogatz]

1) Mark Bradford
Creates these massive works with layers and layers and layers, then digs down to find incredible abstractions. Does everything with everyday materials . . . "If Home Depot doesn't have it, Mark Bradford doesn't need it."

Hi, Clermont Artists! Hope everyone is staying safe. I miss you all so dearly. We also missed our 2020 Art Walk this year, but the Maletz family had a Home Art Walk instead!
