Today we used the scientific method to pose a question about the following objects and light. We had a discussion to figure out the best way to involve all of our objects and how they interact with light 💡🔦
Before break we started our measurement unit with conversations about what connections we could already make. We ended our week by applying our new skills to measure objects in nature!
How can we use counters as mathematicians? First graders were able to articulate how they would be helpful while adding and made detailed pictures on how to correctly use them. First grade math is back ! #addallday 🙌🏼
How can we group efficiently to help us count large quantities? Mathematicians were given different objects and this is how 2 of them counted 20 pens by making groups of 5!
Got to teach my kiddos about my favorite mascot! We talked about how Blue showed the different core values today. Grateful to share piece of my home away from home with my learners! @ButlerBlue3#godawgs
New math tools means time for guided discovery!! Taking 4 minutes out of our lesson for explorers to experiment and see what these tools are was so interesting. It gave me inspiration for future lessons!
First week back in person means time to reestablish our community learning environment! We took time to think of all the things we hope & dream to do the rest of this year. We wrapped up the week by showing our classmates some compassion! First grade is getting busy!!
I am so proud of these three! @Ms_CaraBishop @ms_junod @ms_risley 💙 They presented their students' PBL work with such enthusiasm and intentionality during their virtual exhibitions. It is pretty neat that these awesome educators also happen to be my best friends! #blessed!
There is so much to be thankful for everyday, but this year I’m especially grateful for the people in my life. Activities like this have helped my Explorers and I to slow down and think of all we have to lead the lives we do🧡
Starting off the week strong with conversations about our country and why it’s important to vote! A friend from class was so excited to share she put voter registration info outside her house and 3 people took some. These conversations have NO age limit #vote
Not just Ms.Risley’s but ALL of our agreements! My first grade friends have been doing a phenomenal job coming back to school. Proud of them for owning their learning online and in person!
Virtual teaching has been anything but easy. These three help to remind me that each day is a new day to try something new! Beyond grateful for these wonderful humans💛 I’m lucky to know them !!
We’re working on our ‘Why’ today in math! Which one doesn’t belong? These first graders brought curiosity to the table with some of their responses!🧐 We looked at spikes, teeth and spots, oh my!
First week of teaching ✔️ So excited for this crazy year! Off to celebrate our explorers with a care-a-van🎊 Here’s to year one and all that it’ll bring💛 @ms_junod @Explore_School
We, as educators and responsible humans, must all be dedicated anti-racists. Sparking conversations about race and activism in the classroom is our responsibility. We owe it to our students. We owe it to a better future. Let’s do what we do best: teach and learn.
Today’s the day!! Graduating from @ButlerCOE with departmental distinction and couldn’t be more grateful for my journey along the way💛 So thankful for my peers, professors, students and all that they have taught me. Next stop: Nashville, TN!!
