Nine-year-old Alexa Turner from Alabama is officially scheduled to receive a life-changing bone marrow transplant in January 2027. Her 13-year-old brother, Amari Rose, stepped up as her perfect match to help her overcome a lifetime of severe sickle cell anemia pain and monthly blood transfusions
Sixty-three years ago, on September 15, 1963, a bomb planted by white supremacists exploded at 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, taking the lives of โfour little girlsโ: Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley.
They were children. They were in church.
Their lives were stolen by racial hatred, but their names and their humanity must never be forgotten.
Today, The King Center remembers Addie Mae, Denise, Carole, and Cynthia, and the lives changed by this horrific act of violence. We also remember that the bombing did not occur in isolation. It emerged from a culture in which racism was cultivated, segregation was defended, and violence was used to resist the demand for justice and human dignity.
In his eulogy for Addie Mae, Denise, and Cynthia (Carole was remembered in a separate service), Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. called the bombing โone of the most vicious and tragic crimes ever perpetrated against humanity.โ
Sixty-three years later, remembrance must be more than reflection. It must strengthen our resolve to confront racism, resist hate, reject dehumanization, and build the Beloved Community through nonviolence.
We remember the four girls.
We remember what hate can destroy.
And we recommit ourselves to creating a world where love is organized, justice is pursued, and every child can live free from the violence of racism.

Tina Knowles for Beyoncรฉ's birthday via IG:
"Reminiscing on this day 45 years ago. You took nine hours to come. And I am exhausted on this photo, but the happiest I've ever been in my life up to this point on this day. We are making our first eye contact. The connection is so strong and so beautiful and so powerful. It's never been broken and it never will. Out of all the beautiful things about you, the thing I love the most is your huge heart ! It is the thing that I'm the most proud of. You are an extraordinary human being first. And even through all the sometimes terrible noise you keep going and moving forward. Creating, loving, lifting up others constantly making history, and using that genius mind, working your but off, minding your own damn business, and living your life to the fullest.Happy Birthday I love you.โ
